Yorktown Heights FD conducted a in house heavy rescue operations class over the course of Friday night 10/28, and most of the day saturday 10/29 until the major storm hit Yorktown. The training was focused on advanced stabilization, extrication and culminated with several rescue scenario's that were much beyond the normal everyday motor vehicle accident. The primary goal was to allow all members participating to get extra hands on time with a vast array of equipment that is not always used, along with learning how to operate a lot of newly purchased equipment. During the training members were faced with a mini van on its side with a patient in the vehicle that needed extrication, along with the final scenario a jersey barrier on the dashboard section of a car with one trapped. The
members used every tool in the YHFD arsenal. Some of the equipment used ranged from axe's, halligan's, hydraulic tools, rescue jacks, metal cutting saws, air chisels, high lift jacks, cribbing, high pressure and low pressure air bags, electric winches, chain hoists, grip hoists, chains, shackles and slings. The YHFD would like to thank Yorktown Highway for their help along with Valley Towing,YHD. |
