Chaithanya is a Pastoral Centre of the Archeparchy of Kottayam to coordinate various pastoral and social activities for the Knanaya Catholic Community.
Chaithanya Pastoral Centre was started in 1977 and it is the first Pastoral centre in Kerala. Now, Chaithanya Pastoral Centre houses the central level offices of the various Pastoral Commissions of the Archeparchy. The Centre also provides a numerous variety of services for the public irrespective of caste or creed. It significantly reflects and pronounces the social commitment of the Catholic Church and the Knanaya Community.
Chaithanya Pastoral Centre serves as a Camp & Residential Training Centre being equipped with modern facilities. Situated within 5.5 acres of land, the Centre showcases several Models of Components of Sustainable Development such as Biogas Plant, Solar PhotoVoltaic systems, Rainwater harvesting technology, Vermin-compost production Units, Polyhouse unit, Pipe-composting etc. There are also several Model Community Enterprises within the campus such as Mushroom Production unit, Beauty Parlour and Training centre, Community Mart etc. In respect of these vivid varieties of demonstration facility within its premises, the Centre is acclaimed as a Model Campus.
