Food insecurity still affects Blair County and we are doing our part to limit hunger in our community!

See how you can help!

The American Rescue Workers (ARW) is a church that operates a Christian nonprofit ministry that services low-income families in its community.

The ARW headquarters is located in Williamsport, PA. This national church organization was founded in 1884 and has multiple branches throughout the country, including the Blair County branch, located at 502 Mulberry Street in Hollidaysburg.

The Blair County branch has two locations:

Our mailing address is 502 Mulberry Street in Hollidaysburg.

Prior to Covid, we were hosting a re-entry program at the 502 Mulberry Street building on Tuesdays and Thursdays to assist Blair County Jail inmates with obtaining additional skills and tools for re-acclimating successfully into the community. That service has been placed on hold due to the health factors presently.

The new Mary Fowler Nest building is located behind the existing 502 Mulberry Street facility. Construction began in March 2020 and was completed by early Fall 2020. We had hoped to have a Grand Opening, but the Covid restrictions and other health concerns prevented that. Our local advisory board met and prayed over the building once it was completed, and it was used to disperse children’s gifts during Christmas 2020. The building has not been utilized as intended due to the Covid crisis and its restrictions. As we move forward, we will be having the internal tiles installed and the driveway paved. Hopefully, once health concerns are alleviated, we will be hosting other events and activities there.

Our food pantry is located at 811 Scotch Valley Road in Hollidaysburg. We serve just under 200 families each month, equate about 10 families per day. Our food pantry serves families living in Hollidaysburg, Duncansville, Martinsburg, East Freedom, Roaring Spring and Newry. All others are referred to pantries in their area.

We also host outdoor giveaways at 811 Scotch Valley Road. We have several that are scheduled throughout the year, but if we receive excess produce or perishable items that we need to move quickly and we will announce on Facebook (ARW Blair County) that we are having a popup giveaway. We update our Facebook page more frequently than we do the website.

Our giveaways are open to anyone who resides in Blair County.
IDs are often checked to verify residency.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25: 35-36.

The American Rescue Workers spreads the love and ministry of Jesus Christ through our service. God commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves and we follow this scripture as our model for how to help others - loving each one into God's Kingdom, one soul at a time.

We are loving God by serving others.
