Superbly directed by the Coens and marvellously acted by Bridges, Steinfeld and Damon, True Grit could have handled a certain character event a bit clearer and made more impact of the main conflict's conclusion, but as a whole this is a richly painted, deeply visceral and solidly determined western that lives up to its name while also providing sharp and witty dialogue.

For those who enjoy this film, watching this tale requires you to have some "true grit!" Mattie Ross enlists the help of Rooster Cogburn and LaBoeuf to help capture Tom Chaney, the murderer of her father, and bring him to justice by traveling across the American frontier. What makes this one of the more impressive modern westerns is the complex themes of justice and the meaning behind having "gritt!"

A total flop. Jeff Bridges portrayal of Rooster Cogburn was HORRIBLE! I cannot fathom people thinking this is superior to the original. NO WAY!

Good movie but doesn't really improve on the original. Jeff Bridges is great. Some of the scenes towards the end start looking like a bad Hallmark movie, but whatever. Not a necessary remake but good enough.
