What we’re about
Hello, and thanks for your interest in joining KCDesignCore — welcome aboard!
Our group was founded in 2007 as one of four official Adobe groups in Kansas City. We're designers, developers, digital photographers, freelancers, producers, in-house corporate marketing types, and interested students of all ages — focusing mostly on visually-oriented products in the entire Adobe Creative Cloud range, with a strong emphasis on XD, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and other tools with a visual emphasis. If it's visual, we'll talk about it!
We usually meet on the FIRST TUESDAY of every month, but sometimes special events will change that schedule so always check the web site to see where our next meeting will be!
In early 2013, we made Centriq Training our monthly home. Their recent move took them to the corner of 92nd and Ward Parkway on the Missouri side. But, as with so many other venues, in-person meetings were put on hiatus in April 2020, and remain on hold until we're in a better place regarding COVID-19.
The good news is, we're still very much alive and hosting online events! Adobe provides us with great presentations, speakers, and prizes. If you're a regular participant in our group, you're very likely to take home some fantastic goodies. Twice a year, we are authorized to give away an entire year's subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud — basically "everything Adobe puts out for creatives" on a membership basis. Additionally, throughout the year we have giveaways based on your attendance and participation.
Whether you're just starting out with Adobe tools or you're an experienced designer, we look forward to welcoming you to our community. It's a lot of fun and nobody walks away empty-handed!
Be sure to check us out by looking for @kcdesigncore on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
(Due to the proliferation of spammers and scammers, we've had to resort to approving new members on an as-requested basis rather than letting Meetup auto-join new people. To join our group, we ask that you please use a "real" name and a "real" photo of yourself -- our group is composed of real people, not flowers, pets, or abstract designs. You're a visual type, but here's your chance to show us what YOU look like. Thanks for your understanding!)

See all- Long Documents: Best Practices & Brutal Hacks with Adam JuryMacquarie, Mission, KS
If you ever work on long documents you don't want to miss our May meeting! Adam Jury will talk about long documents (summary below) -- but we need to stress that when Adam says "long documents" he's doing COMPLICATED long documents with tons of charts, images, rules about where things can and can't break, etc. His work involves problem-solving wizardry because of the industry he works in.
We'll start with some best practices around Document Setup: Parent Pages, Styles, and Layers. In the middle, we'll go over how to best get our text/data/artwork into our new document and how to format it efficiently. In the end we'll talk about finalizing this big document with things like Table of Contents, Cross-References, Indexes — and then how to get it all out of InDesign!
Adam Jury is a graphic designer and publisher based in Minneapolis. His work focuses on analog games: books, cards, boxes and other ephemera. A co-founder of Posthuman Studios, he's been publishing the EclipsePhase roleplaying game since 2009, winning multiple awards and running successful crowdfunding campaigns along the way.
