Last week, during the Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas, Drag Radial racer Eric Peterson's '69 Firebird went off line, hit the opposite wall, bounced back across the strip and caught fire. And then, The Burnout.
According to those on the scene, Peterson had been knocked out in the crash, the brakes locked up and the throttle was stuck open — the recipe for a helpless, smoky and ultimately fiery burnout. Drag racing in a seven-second Firebird? Not for the faint of heart. Thankfully, Peterson was not badly injured. (Thanks to Jimal for the tip!)
