Small town atmosphere with big town flavors! Dinner was delicious. The small plates to share were spectacular. Drinks were perfection.
Service 5 stars. Chris our waiter, recommended our entrees and nailed it. Portions were so big, we have left overs for Sunday brunch.
We will be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John Y.Martinez, CA127153Apr 12, 2024
It was excellent in every way. The Bloody Mary was incredible. The food was awesome. Everything from the salad to the Tomahawk.
Just make the drive and do it.
Only downside is that I shared the Tomahawk. Not that I could eat the whole thing, I just like eating my own steak. No matter though, it was an experience and phenomenal.
If you're staying the night, hit up Putah Creek Cafe right across the street in the morning.
You're welcome.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John S.Roseville, CA1952Apr 2, 2024
Let's start with the good. The service was great. Our waitress was outstanding . Patient, friendly , attentive and quickly took care of our concerns. She deserves 6 stars.
The reason for the lower score were the steaks. It has been several years since we had been here and I was looking forward to it. Times have changed. The quality of the meat has gone down. The steaks were chewy and tough to eat. For the price it was a bit insulting.
Not many restaurants left to get a good steak, alas this is not one of them .Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 3876143202Mar 25, 2024Updated review3 check-ins
Sundays they open at 3 pm and we had Linner reservations. It's an odd time for a meal and to be honest, I had already ate lunch a couple of hours beforehand. However, we came with family and because I had eaten earlier, I ordered the salad with steak bites. It was sort of a blessing because otherwise I would not have ordered the caesar salad. It was actually very delicious. The lettuce is served not chopped in pieces and with the dressing on the side. Which I loved because it was so crispy!! The steakbites were served on the side and to my surprise, there were a good amount of bites to add. It also comes with bread- what a great paring! Needless to say it was the perfect amount of food for me. My husband ordered the tomahawk and had plenty to take home. Our son had the filet mignon...small piece of steak (not worth it) but he enjoyed it along with a side of mac and cheese.
Overall, Buckhorn is consistent and a great place to dine with others and as a couple. There's a public parking lot across the street so even if you don't find street parking, the walk is very short.
Shout out to Shelby for her attentiveness and excellent hosting! She was awesome and very patient.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 1Mar 26, 2022Previous reviewOverdue review but better late than never. I have dined here a few times now and it never disappoints. The last time Hubby and I came on the weekend before Valentines Day, it was no different. I made a reservation online about a month before and got a text confirmation. I was also able to call and confirm.
It was a busy weekend but we were able to find parking in a lot across the street. Service was on point. Super friendly and patient with our questions. My husband wanted a tomahawk steak and it is supposed to be a dinner for two, but I still ordered my own meal. The tomahawk is not on the menu, you need to ask and they will check how many they have left. If I recall, the steak accompanies two sauces, and two sides. It was a lot of good. We were able to take the whatever we couldnt finish home. I had a surf and turf and it hit the spot. I'm a well-done steak kind of gal and it was cooked "well" to my liking. And if you ask for bread, there's a charge (I don't recall this pre-pandemic) but you definitely get a big loaf. (Took that home as well!)
Prices have gone up but understandable due to the recent Covid restrictions and obtaining product. We hadn't dined out in a while and it was just nice to be out so the cost wasn't a huge factor. It gets busy here so make sure you make a reservation. - Mar 15, 2024
Nestled in the quaint town of Winters, CA, Buckhorn Steakhouse beckons to those with a hankering for a delectable steak dinner. Stepping into this establishment, you're transported to a bygone era with its charming "old west" welcoming vibe.
My recent visit to Buckhorn Steakhouse was nothing short of delightful. Opting for the boneless Ribeye while my wife savored the Fillet Mignon, we were treated to an exceptional culinary experience. The steaks were cooked to perfection, each bite bursting with flavor and tenderness. Accompanying our mains were the garlic mashed potatoes, which can only be described as pillows of heaven - creamy, rich, and utterly satisfying.
Before diving into our steaks, we indulged in the Tri-Tip Tot-Chos appetizer, a unique fusion of flavors that left us craving for more. Crispy tater tots topped with tender tri-tip and savory toppings - it was a delightful start to our meal and one I wholeheartedly recommend.
What truly elevated our dining experience was the attentive service provided by our server. Knowledgeable and courteous, they ensured that every aspect of our meal was impeccable, from recommendations to refills.
The atmosphere at Buckhorn Steakhouse is something to be savored as well. With its rustic décor and inviting ambiance, it's the perfect setting for a special evening out or a well-deserved treat.
In conclusion, Buckhorn Steakhouse offers more than just a meal; it's an experience. From the succulent steaks to the cozy atmosphere, every detail is crafted to perfection. If you find yourself in Winters, CA, craving a fabulous steak dinner, look no further than Buckhorn Steakhouse. It's a culinary journey worth embarking on.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 30, 2023
Sorry, not a fan. :( Maybe I'm petty, but I don't appreciate it when pricey establishments do not offer complimentary bread. $5 for a quarter loaf - seems steep. We ordered appetizers - calamari and Brussels sprouts. The calamari was sooo greasy and rubbery. The little sliced tomatoes/jalapanos were the star of the dish. Brussels sprouts were a bit on the greasy side as well
For our entrees we ordered steak with a side of sautéed shrimp. The shrimp were
Not sautéed in the butter they were brushed with it so it was a greasy mess. We also ordered the special - filet and "lobster". The steak was dry and rubbery and the lobster turned out to be rubbery crab. It was also $72! The quality and service didn't warrant the price tag.
My son ordered the kids chicken strips which he said were not good. What kid doesn't like chicken strips? I had to take a bite and verify myself and it turned out to be a pool of grease! So disappointed. We didn't make him finish because it was a health hazard to eat that much grease.
Service was fine, but not an expensive steakhouse worthy service.
We won't be making this crazy drive back to this location.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 547713967Dec 18, 2023
Came in for a friends birthday dinner and I would say this is a great place for that. We ate here during Christmas time and they had plenty of festive decor and specialty drinks available.
On a Friday night the place was absolutely packed. It took my husband and I about 15 mins to order a drink at the crowded bar. We did have reservations and were sat pretty quickly once everyone is our party arrived.
Our server was fantastic and attentive.
The food options were just ok for me, I got a wedge salad, scallop appetizer and surf and turf entrée.
The wedge is HUGE - can be split with 2 people and is still like a full size salad. Dressing on the side is a must, as they drenched mine and it got soggy.
Scallops were delicious, definitely recommend getting these.
Surf and turf was what you expect. A sirloin cooked to my liking (med rare) some huge sautéed prawns, steamed green beans and a loaded baked potato. Nothing super special.
It was a nice place to have dinner for us and a pretty decent meal.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 1 - Mar 3, 2024
Came here to celebrate a birthday for a party of 8.
This was my second time at Buckhorn - the first time I was not impressed, probably why it took me 7 years to come back!
The food was mediocre, no flavor, no seasoning, very bland! To top it off, expensive for what it was.
I would say it's easy to share a plate as the portions are pretty big, especially if appetizers and bread are ordered. To a surprise, my favorite was the bread and butter...
The ambience is beautiful, we were in the party room and it was dimly lit and decor was perfect. Attention was also great but due to the party size, it's a given as the gratuity is already included and paid for. The total for 8 with shareable plates was $611 and both my partner and I were so disappointed on our way home.
It's a skip for us!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Apr 6, 2024Updated review
My sister & I walked in a torrential down pour last Sun evening around 5:30pm. We sat at the bar, & Katie took our drink order. We actually decided to order Lemon Drops $11ea, made with Tito's Vodka $3ea, which was absolutely wonderful. For snacking we shared a Smoked Sirloin Steakhouse Sandwich $18, which had a 1/2lb of Sirloin, so it was a bit challenging to try and bite into this monster of a sandwich. We also got a side of Beer Battered Prawns $12 which were hot, crispy and delicious. Katie did a wonderful job checking on us from time to time.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 25, 2024Previous reviewMy husband, sister & I came here last Mon evening. We were seated at a booth in the bar, and Adam came and took our drinks orders. My sister & I both got the Buckhorn Hazy IPA which were great, & my husband enjoyed his Buckhorn IPA. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that it was Happy Hour so our beers were only $5, which is unheard of these days. We decided to share an order of their Brussel Sprouts $12 which were yummy. We also got an order of the Bacon Wrapped Jalapenos $8, which they enjoyed. We got an order of the Bruschetta $8 which was rather small and kind of hard to eat since it was on a long baguette that wasn't sliced very well. I had heard their Tri Tip sliders were really good. I'm not much of a red meat eater, but we got an order of 3 since they were also on the Happy Hour menu for $8. OMG!! They were delicious!! I got mine with BBQ sauce since I'm not a fan of horseradish. The buns were fluffy, and the crispy onion strings really worked wonderfully. I could have eaten an entire plate myself. Days later I found myself craving them. Adam did a great job checking on us.

Buckhorn steakhouse is a bit off the beaten path but worth the drive into the lovely town of Winters! The food is excellent with large sized appetizers at an affordable price, quality steaks and authentic vintage decor. Of all the items we ordered, the "must gets" were the fried calamari, tri-tip tots, and the filet with sautéed prawns. The Tri-tip tots covered the plate with deliciously fried tater tots and toppings in addition to a heaping portion of tri-tip. The Filet with sauteed prawns was excellent as the filet was tender and the prawns were large and plump covered in sauce. If you're looking for a new steakhouse to try, Buckhorn is worth the trip!
