The Birds of Prey Foundation is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned raptors. Each year over 600 birds arrive for care from all over Colorado. Since 1981, the Birds of Prey Foundation has accepted over 18,000 injured and orphaned birds. Specialized, round-the-clock care and large flight enclosures enable hundreds of these magnificent raptors to enjoy a second chance at freedom every year.

Nestling Red-tailed Hawks Injured in Windstorm
On May 6th, 2024 a powerful windstorm blew nests and nestling birds out of trees. Within a few hours, we admitted 2 nestling Red-tailed Hawks from two separate nests that had fallen from trees. Their tiny bodies were bruised and their faces swollen. They. were cold and barely alive. They were placed in an incubator with heat and oxygen, and given anti-inflammatories to help with swelling. It took most of the day to warm them up and get them to eat a small meal. One week later the larger nestling was doing well enough to move in with a foster parent, while the smaller one was still struggling. Two and a half weeks after his fall the smaller one finally has been able to move in with the foster parent and the other nestling and is doing well.
