Waynesburg offers residential class for high schoolers

Registration is open for Waynesburg University’s “Space as Place – Adventure Greene County: A Knowledge for Freedom Program,” a three-week residential class for high school juniors and seniors. The program, made possible through a $250,000 grant from the Teagle Foundation’s Knowledge for Freedom Initiative, is free, and students earn three Waynesburg University credits. Locals decorate flags ahead of Memorial Day

The greater Washington community gathered at Washington Cemetery Thursday morning to decorate veterans’ graves ahead of Memorial Day. Charleroi to host cleanup Friday

Charleroi will hold its annual cleanup day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday throughout the downtown area. Market House will be used as a staging area as volunteers clean the streets, pick up debris and spruce up planters with fresh topsoil and new plants. The state Department of Transportation provided trash bags, work gloves and safety vests for the volunteers. Charleroi Area School District has confirmed the participation of 49 students and parents. Canonsburg seeks funding to address flooding issue

With some help from neighboring Chartiers Township, Canonsburg may have found a way to address flooding on McBurney Road. An area stream flows through Chartiers and onto West Pike Street in Canonsburg, resulting in flooding. “That stream overflows, breaches at the banks, crosses the street and impacts the local businesses,” said council President Rich Russo after Monday’s council meeting. “It’s been a problem for years.
