My mother and I went here for our usual Friday lunch. We had a great time! Our server, Evan D was fantastic! He gave us the right amount of time to choose our drinks and decide on food.
The food as well was fantastic. We ordered the potato pancakes, as our starter. (Would recommend) I ordered the Chicken Florentine, which was just perfect. My mother ordered a shrimp scampi, which she also greatly enjoyed.
We had a great stay! and if you're seated with Evan D as your server, you're in good hands. Great experience!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Went to Claim Jumper for my wifes birthday. It was a good time!
We started out in the bar with some drinks and some happy hour appetizers. We got the pretzel bites and the fried zucchini. Both were excellent! Decent sized portions, and the price was awesome, $5.00 and $6.00 each, I believe. After that, we moved to the main dining room to have dinner with our friends.
I went with the Widow Maker Burger and my wife had a chicken pot pie. Both were delicious! Ended it with a free slice of the Chocolate Motherload Cake (or whatever its called) since it was my wife's birthday. Service was excellent and food was really good.
Place was freaking empty! It's a huge place, and only one little section had people in it. Sucks for them, but good for us I guess? Hope they survive! Would definitely come back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Tim, thanks for the great review about our La Mesa Claim Jumper! Hope we can earn that extra star on your next visit!
Mar 23, 2013Previous reviewClaim Jumper is always good. We came here for lunch today and had a great meal. Service was fantastic, food was good and everything just worked.
I ordered the Widow Maker Burger and my wife got the Chicken Pot Pie. We got an appetizer too....we went with the Soft Pretzel Sticks. Here is how everything stacked up.
Soft Pretzels- Not bad. I wouldn't get them again though. They give you about 8 sticks and we got the parmesan topping. They are served with a little cup of mustard and a cheese sauce.
Widow Maker Burger- Freaking amazing! This thing is a beast! Nice sized patty, Tillamook cheese, bacon, avocado and onion rings. Its by far the unhealthiest thing on the menu but so be it. The thing is delicious. Anytime you throw cheese, avocado and bacon on a burger, its going to taste pretty good. The burger came with shoestring fries. They were salted nicely and I ate them pretty quick. They suck when they get cold.
Chicken Pot Pie- My wife gave me some of it. They use all white meat chunk chicken . The veggies, gravy and crust were delicious. This came with a small bowl of fruit.
Coke products which is always good.
Total after tip was $48.00. Tad pricey for lunch but I felt it was worth it.
Service was great as always and I will definitely come back.Apr 7, 2011Previous reviewWent here tonight for a friends birthday party. It was good times!
My wife and I ordered the widow maker burger. It had everything.....avocado, bacon, cheese and onion rings. A really good tasting burger. The fries that came with it were just ok. A little too thin for my liking but not too shabby. The reason for the 4 stars was the awesome service. The waitress was on top of things for our party of 10. She was friendly, got us everything we needed and even wrote us all separate checks which is key whenever you go out with a large group. The "pass the bill" thing always sucks because usually there is a cheap ass in the group and someone always gets screwed in the end. Overall it was a really good dinner and I would most definitely return. - Nov 23, 2023
It's been a few years since I visited Claim Jumper for its annual Thanksgiving Holiday dinner. I've always been a fan of their restaurant, especially on those occasions where large groups required a larger-spaced restaurant! Claim Jumper always came through! Well it was only me this day and instead taking my meal home, I was determined to celebrate my Thanksgiving in-shop this time. Since I'm on ambiance, Claim Jumper is neither upscale nor trendy. It's really just in between those categories and mostly serves American traditional offerings and seemingly a lot of comfort food! On holidays like Veterans Day or Thanksgiving, it gets very crowded here. It's always wise to make a reservation at Claim Jumper - I did for both of these holidays this year and it worked perfectly to get me in ahead of the crowd in waiting. Like my choice of the meat loaf dinner on Vets Day, the turkey dinner I had today was pretty awesome! The large-portioned white meat was very tender and I didn't need a knife to cut it. It came with the zucchini veggie side, mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes (which I don't like!), stuffing, and some cranberry sauce. I didn't feel like they dished up as much as in years past, but I still had to take some home with me, since I was not able to finish the meal. It was good to get reintroduced to this restaurant! I'll find a reason to come back again in the near future!

4/11/23 - We arrived with a party of three and went to the bar area. Then we were joined with a party of three we knew who happened to be going there as well. We waved them down and they decided to join us in the bar. We weren't excepting in seeing anyone we know here. Hostess was nice to move 2 tables together. Service was good for the food and the food was good. A total of 4 stars. I took a star off because the waiter refused to take our guests coupon they had for either a free appetizer or $10 off. We actually had the same coupon and received $10 off. Waiter said only one discount card per table. We all told them we arrived separately, saw each other and moved tables together. CHECK the cameras! Told waiter we would move table apart to get the other coupon used. Waiter said no. Well our group and the other group will never go back here. Poor customer service for not honoring a coupon which is why we both happen to go there. It was the last day for coupon before it expired. So the other group gave a $10 less tip for their bill. Waiter split out bills per our request. Because of this I didn't take any photos, just a photo of my lobster sandwich a friends burger. It was good but premixed with like mayo. I would have preferred it without the mayo or not mix they used. Other person in my group had the Widow Maker burger with fries. Last person had a salad.

We are so sorry for the inconveniences this has caused you. Our focus is always on ensuring the best quality experience for every customer. Please follow this link to learn more about the surcharge and why it was implemented: https://www.claimjumper.com/contact/california-surcharge
Apr 6, 2024Previous review4/5/24 - we set reservations for three at 4pm. We arrived and it was dead inside. A long time ago this place was always packed and a line inside. We opted to go to the bar area to take advantage of the bar appetizers and order full meals. The main menu was half the size of options as I recall. We ordered the following: Mozzarella Sticks SM, 4 pieces and they were ok, a little overcooked. Came with a red sauce.
Loaded Potato Skins SM, 6 small pieces and were ok, little greasy. Came with sour cream.
Pine Coco Lava was adequate. Not flavorful and to much ice.
Cup Clam Chowder was excellent. The cup was very small. Very good chowder.
Classic Cheeseburger tasted good. Ordered well done and it was cooked well done.
Original Tri-Tip Dip was excellent. We were shocked this was as good as we were hoping for.
Widow Maker Burger was excellent. Cooked well done has asked.
The bill had a 3% Surcharge which killed me. There was no menu listing for the surcharge or told about it by the server. Also, the tips on the bill suggested you start at 18%. Really? We have a 10% tip overall.
The service was very slow and it was dead. We asked for water to start off with while we waited to look over the menu. The water came out after we ordered the items. About 10 minutes. We asked for a refill and the water arrived right before the bill arrived. We were dying of thirst from the fries. Poor service. I took 1 star off for service, 1 star off for not providing a 3rd set of utensils and napkins, I walked to another table to grab what we needed, server and hostess never saw we required it and a star off for the 3% surcharge, asking for a min 18% tip and a 1 star off not clearing the table as we finished the appetizers. We have been to many Claim Jumpers for over 20 years from Sacramento to San Diego. The quality and service has diminished over time. We gave this place one last try. Lastly, they said they have a seasonal menu, no chili on the menu. Finally, both burger options we were never asked what side we preferred. When we asked the waiter told us choose from the menu. Waiter was going to walk away without giving us a choice. I wonder what the side would have been for us if we never asked. I will just order food to go next time to avoid service delays since the food was good and the service wasn't up to par. I think the overall prices for the food are about 15-20% too expensive for what you obtain. Lastly, the table we sat out we were told we could choose any seat, which was wonderful, the one we selected was dirty! Clean the top of it from prior guests. I would have removed 1 star for this but the food overall was a 2. 2 Stars overall and this place may have been a 1 overall if the food didn't taste good, at least the main dishes. The appetizers I would skip except the clam chowder. Please see photos. - Ash4lyfe R.Skyline, San Diego, CA072May 20, 2024
Would I come back ? If I'm not paying .Over priced and the food is pretty bland .Came with a group of 8 and it took more than 40minutes to get our food and when we received it the food was like warm .The waiter was nice and it seemed as if he was working alone .Never got asked if I needed a refill or anything .Told the manager about the food and she offered to comp us desert .I never said I wanted desert but thanks .I personally wouldn't come here but I come with my father .This place is for the elderly .It's clean and not that packed .Freezing in here and there's no heaters on .

Place is beyond over priced and food is average. I compare it to a Chili's restaurant.
Service was great so that was definitely a plus.
They have plenty of seating so reservations are easy.
3/5 Mac and cheese burger - lacked flavor, didn't feel it was a great burger. Would skip this.
3/5 Potato skins - were very tiny and lacked flavor as well. Would skip this as well.
3/5 Mozzarella sticks - great size but give the taste of frozen.
Overall it's over priced and most likely wouldn't return. And steaks range from $50-$125. My roommate had the tomahawk steak and definitely was not worth the money. Overall, fancy name with no promising food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Expensive, really subpar food that was once okay but has gotten progressively worse over the years. Truly disappointing in every way.
