Sophie Neville has begun to win awards for her screen writing, winning the Best Screenplay at the Berlin International Art Film FestivalĀ and Best Feature Script in Prague, London and Paris – a total of 19 awards this year.

Her WWII screenplay THE MEETING HOUSE is on the Coverfly Red List having won five finalist awards in the USA.

Sophie began working on films as a girl, becoming inadvertently well known for playing ‘Titty’ in ‘Swallows and Amazons’ (1974),Ā  the classic movie streaming on Amazon Prime that celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year.

After her ebook on ‘The Secrets of Filming Swallows & Amazons’ became an Amazon bestseller, Sophie was commissioned to write ‘The Making of Swallows and Amazons’, which The Lutterworth Press has now launched as an audiobook.Ā

In 2014, Sophie became president of The Arthur Ransome Society and began giving talks at yacht clubs, cinemas and literary festivals. She was commissioned by Revelation Films to write DVD Extras for ‘Coot Club’ and ‘The Big Six’, along with forewords for Swallowdale’Ā by Arthur Ransome, ‘Swallows, Amazons and Coots’,Ā Ā ‘An A-Z of Cumbria and The Lake District on Film’, ‘Boats Yet Sailing’, and a book by Arthur Herbertson, and ‘From Dust to Trust’.

Since then, Sophie has contributed chapters to books such as Write Well and Merry Christmas Everyone,Ā while writing feature articles for magazines and newspapers such as the Daily Telegraph.Ā 

Sophie has been speaking on BBC Radio and ITV News.Ā StudioCanal asked her to appear in the DVD Extras of their Vintage Classic version of ‘Swallows and Amazons'(1974), being screened in cinemas this summer.

After starring in another adventure movie, and appearing in Crossroads and the Two Ronnies whilst at Durham University, Sophie went into television production. She spent five years assisting on BBC drama serials such as ‘Doctor Who’ before making her first documentary for Channel 4 in Kenya, and ended up working behind the camera on more than 110 different programmes.Ā 

Having directed comedy dramas for BBC Education, she produced an Inset series, set up a Blue Peter exploration of South Africa, and set up wildlife films in Botswana and Namibia. A long-distance rider, she organises challenge rides in Southern Africa where she was based for twelve years.

Since returning to the UK, Sophie has appeared as herself in about ten different television programmes. Her achieve footage has been included in many more.
