From the Publisher
The same solutions and tools that are used in arresting alcoholism are presented as a "map" to facilitate the problem eater in moving from the depressing cycle of out-of-control eating, over-controlled eating, to the serenity and sanity of continuous abstinence from compulsive eating.
Whereas dieting can create a bondage to the insanity of a "dry drunk," abstinence from random, compulsive, overeating or undereating can offer "sobriety"--a sane and sound way to address and arrest addictive eating.
Just as alcoholics can now be offered the hope and promise of recovery, people with any and all expressions of eating disorders can also be invited to believe that they, too, can experience a full recovery.

Her words on getting and keeping a "bottom line" with your food is the most helpful piece of advice I've ever heard about food/eating.
For the last few years my problem hasn't been dieting, as I know that doesn't work for people who have a legitimate eating disorder, but I have been overeating & binging steadily. I just couldn't & wouldn't be willing to look at my overeating as a serious, life-threatening problem. I hit my early 40's, & began to realize that my body will not always perform optimally(if at all!) if I kept overeating. This book is helping me get my life back, slowly.
I've tried eating according to my "body wisdom", without sucess; I just would eat whatever wasn't nailed down! If my body was so wise, why didn't it "tell" me to eat carrots or bananas when I felt like I HAD to eat, instead of sweets or chips?!
I've tried a few online forums, one of which seemed to work for awhile, until I realized that it was too vague, & didn't treat the problem of binging/overeating like the disease it is.
I've tried "just taking a long walk/bath/read a book" when I felt like eating--these are so ineffective when facing a real eating disorder that it's almost funny.
I've done threapy/counseling, which helped me in other areas of my life, but the food always came roaring back at me.
My point is that until you treat your relationship with food seriuosly & eventually life-threatening, as Ms. Jackson writes, you most likely will not be helping yourself. If you really want your life back from food, read this book!
The guilt of binging, the obsession with controlling while dieting, being depressed all day if I hadn't succeeded.
I have been in recovery for a month now thanks to this book and I feel sane again.
