The Judicial Conference of the United States has authorized the appointment of a full-time United States Magistrate Judge for the Middle District of Georgia, Albany Division. The vacancy will occur upon the retirement of current United States Magistrate Judge Thomas Q. Langstaff, effective January 3, 2025. The term of office is eight years.
The authority to conduct specified criminal proceedings by audio/video means under the CARES Act in the Middle District of Georgia is extinguished effective April 17, 2023.
