Dr. Tony Choi is my favorite dentist. He is very skillful doing everything himself, like also orthodontic treatments, tooth implants, and gum repairs.
With his orthodontic skills he gave me the ability of a perfect smile, and I still use his transparent appliance at night to keep my teeth in shape.
With his dental surgery skills he gave me a perfect tooth implant where I had very little bone left, which he was able to reach, and he added more bone.
Now with his periodontic skills he also made a perfect gum repair where my gum was receding, and he provided great instructions for allowing it to heal.
Last but not least he is a good character treating you with love and respect. I appreciate him.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you Brigit for your positive feedback we appreciate you very much .
Sep 8, 2020Previous reviewDr. Tony Choi is my favorite dentist. He does everything himself, like creating tooth implants and orthodontic appliances. He is skillful like he centered a tooth implant perfectly where there was not much bone left. Last but not least, he is very responsive about what you like or what you don't like and he gave me a nice smile with my tooth corrections.

He is very skillful, for example he succeeded making a tooth implant for me where I had a very thin bone. He centered the tooth implant perfectly, and also added more bone, so that it holds up. Last but not least, he is a good character treating you in a loving way like a friend.

Took appointment for my wife at his office informing that she may reschedule if i can't come in on that day & they said sure thats not a problem. Later they said its a no show when I rescheduled, stating that it was not 48hrs or more time, to inform .
When I missed appointment they said we cannot reschedule your appointment & lets part ways
Very unprofessional & declined her impending cleaning & charged 100 bucks for no show.
Customer service very unprofessional
coming to the doctor, everything is an upsell. there is always something wrong no matter how minuscule, not sure i felt comfortable with the whole process. would do good to get a second opinion.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our office. We welcome all feedback as it helps us know what works best for our office and what does not. We do apologize if there was some confusion in regards to our Office Policies. It is our office policy to charge a $50 no show or same day cancellation fee, which is on our Financial policy consent form your wife signed. As a courtesy we usually waive the initial no show / same day cancellation fee. In your wives case she had 3. When we schedule a patient we block an hour of the doctors time. So when a patient doesn't show up it takes away from time we can be helping another patient. We waived her initial fee as a courtesy. Any other no shows or same day cancellations will be billed directly to the patient. At this time we have decided to part ways amicably due to repeat no shows.
Due to HIPAA requirements we can not go into much detail but your wives cleaning was complete at her initial visit.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your time and understanding. - Brian K.Downtown, San Jose, CA020Aug 28, 2018
It was only after my visit to another dentist to repair Tony Choi's work did I realize how terrible of a dentist Tony Choi is.
I had a simple chipped front tooth, so I went to Tony out of convenience. Boy was that a mistake. My chipped front tooth apparently required local anesthesia so here comes the big needle. Two days later, Tony's handywork patch-fix chipped off, so I decided to find a different dentist. Here's where the disturbing part begins:
I go into my new dentist, he takes a look and starts fixing my chipped tooth. No local anesthesia?? Yes, apparently any competent doctor who knew anything would have taken one look at my chipped tooth and determined there was absolutely no need for anesthesia. My new dentist's work has been solid and I've had no issue for the last 9 months.
Now I ask you, if Tony Choi can't even identify whether or not anesthesia is required, do you think he has the competency for making other decisions regarding your teeth?Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Brian, thank you for your feedback. We are truly sorry you had a negative experience at our dental office. Most of us do not like to have dental work done since it is rather uncomfortable. We strive to provide excellent dentistry with highest standard on a daily basis. We normally like to use a light local anesthetic to ease the discomfort as much as possible, unless patients request otherwise. Our intention was never to make you feel uncomfortable.
We would like to help, and If we can be of any help in the future, please let us know. - Sylvia L.Portland, OR0121Jun 6, 2022
Avoid this place. I regret for not reading reviews more carefully. Now I have to deal with too much hassle. I found Dr. Choi via my insurance in-network portal. I called his office on 3 months in advance to schedule an appointment for a regular exam and cleaning in November. To ensure being totally covered, I sent them my insurance card along all other important information. And then they called me saying I will be 100% covered for this appointment and there will be zero copay, which is consistent with my insurance policy. On November 8, I went to his office and had regular exam and X-rays. In the end, Dr. Choi barely did cleaning and asked me to come back for a deep cleaning. Before I left his office, I also confirmed with Dr. Choi himself that everything was covered and I had zero copay. About a month later, they sent me a statement charging me $281 after all eligible charges being paid by my insurance. I was super surprised by receiving this bill and called my insurance immediately. My insurance said as an in-network provider, he should ONLY charge me eligible charges rather than submitted charges (whatever number he wrote). In fact, all charges on my bill are submitted charges. I called their office many times but couldn't get through, so I emailed them restating I had been ensured a 100% coverage and I don't plan to pay this bill as it contradicts what they have told me. No one replied to my email, but their office kept sending me bills. I called their office and they said it's the issue between my insurance and me and it's not their business. According to my dental experience for so many years, it's their responsibility to sort this out with my insurance company before the service and let me know what to expect. In this case, I expected to pay NONE based on their confirmation. If I had known there would be a copay, I would definitely go to another dentist. Regardless how good Dr. Choi is, he didn't keep his words and failed to be a reliable provider. I am extremely frustrated with this experience and feeling trapped.

Extremely bad experience for 1/ extremely painful practices, 2/ bad cosmetics standard, 3/ suspicious billing practices
1/ First time I fear going to the dentist in my life, with siringes sliding on my gums when trying to numb them
2/ Dr Choi took notes of my teeth color when doing replacements and once installed was trying to convince me to keep that color even if it was completely off the color of my other teeth around
3/ Dr Choi overcharged to my insurance and to me directly. When confronted, front office staff will not respond and you have to deal directly with Dr Choi, but then he becomes not available...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Louise C.Los Gatos, CA03Sep 10, 2019
This place is a scam! Very unfortunate to be unable to trust a dentist/healthcare provider in a beautiful town like Los Gatos. This place only cares about money, they don't check your insurance, they try to pressure and convince people that their teeth are in bad shape, and they will, without your accept, do procedures you didn't ask for and charge you for it. Be careful out there.
Long story short, I went in for a regular annual check up at Tony Choi's office. I had called them prior and given them my insurance information. During the entire appointment I felt overwhelmed and confused. Without telling me in advance, they cleaned my teeth and used the fancy X-ray machine - also, I'm 28 and my former dentists state that I have healthy teeth, but Tony Choi tried to convince me that I needed a crown and a night guard urgently and that it would be best if we start the process same day. I like to be able to trust doctors and I felt extremely pressured by the staff, so finally I did agree to pay $180 for a night guard, but explained I wanted to wait with the crown.
Due to wisdom teeth extractions six months earlier, I had already met the limit for my insurance so now I had to pay out of pocket and I have been dealing with their invoice for 4 weeks now and they have been extremely rude over the phone - they have hung up on me, given me attitude and lied several times. Obviously, this place does not check your insurance before procedure and they ended up charging me $650+ for a regular annual check up. This place only cares about money, they don't check your insurance, they try to pressure and convince people that their teeth are in bad ushape, and they will, without your accept, do procedures you didn't ask for and charge you for it. Be careful out there.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ricky T.Campbell, CA22Aug 12, 2017
I was seen for a general check up and never in my life had a worse cleaning ever.
Trying to up sale everything, I was told I need night guard, root canal plus crown, etc.
Second day I've checked my tooth and the stain was still there.
I called the office and rescheduled me two weeks later to get a repeat cleaning.
I went in the dentist Toni started to give me lecture about the coffee, tea, and food ketchup stain will come back in days or weeks. I just walked out.
I had tooth cleaning twice a year for past 30 years, never had stain come Bach in weeks. What a complete BS.
I asked to get my records and told me it is $40. For the x-ray.
Horrible experience.
Just don't go to this place
I won't recommend this Dentist at all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - William N.Los Gatos, CA114Feb 25, 2020
Review
My praise and five (5) star review for Dr. Tony Choi is based upon several reasons/facts.
Dr. Choi is extremely professional, experienced, competent, polite and pays attention to every detail. For these reasons, I'm delighted to have selected him to perform the following dental work.
Over the course of several months, Dr. Choi successfully extracted a tooth, installed two implants, performed gum surgery, and installed a beautiful new bridge.
Certainly, it has been a long process but the results were well worth the wait. Indeed, my new bridge looks great and fits perfectly.
Therefore, I'm sincerely grateful to Dr. Choi, and his wonderful staff, for their outstanding, stellar, efforts. Bravo!

Unprofessional, Unethical and Money Hungry. Everything you don't want in a Dentist! My advice is to not select him as your dentist. I will not be going back to him nor will I be recommending him either. I have filed a formal complaint with my Dental Insurer as well as the CA State Dental Association. This guy would charge the dead if he could! Stay Clear and Stay Happy!

Hello Marc,
We are truly sorry you left our office with a negative experience. We strive to provide the best care for our patients, it is our professional responsibility to advise you of our findings and to give you the options as to how to start the treatment plan we presented to you . Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help in the future. - Tim B.Los Gatos, CA38631Mar 20, 2018
Dr. Choi has the patient service skills of that guy who always is right, no matter what. My appointment started off with him grabbing the bitewings out of his assistant's hands not once, but twice to adjust them so they are "placed perfectly" in his words. His behavior towards his staff is disrespectful at best.
I hadn't been to the dentist for a couple years and yes, I don't floss regularly. My gums weren't in great shape, but instead of pointing out what to do he proceeded to insist I look in the mirror at every single area. I get it Dr. Choi I need to floss. You telling me every 30 seconds is disrespectful. You may not think you were, but you don't get it! If the patient thinks you are, YOU ARE!
To the assistant/hygienist with the Old Skooks...You did fine.. Dr. Choi not so much!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for your feedback Tim. We apologize for your negative experience at our dental office. Dr. Choi provides a hands on training for his assistants so you may on occasion catch him helping correct the assistant as to ensure no discomfort for the patient. We understand how nerve wrecking it can be to be at the dentist. So we try to educate the patient with visuals as to why Dr. Choi may have recommended a specific treatment. We usually do this with the mirror to show the patient their "trouble" areas and that we're not just trying to up sell them on unnecessary treatment. We have found that in the dental world patient education lacks. We want to guarantee when the patient leaves our office they have a full understanding of any and all findings. And we've given them the highest standard of care we can offer.
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help in the future we would love to see you again.
