Regional Population Growth Continues
The U.S. Census Bureau has released the annual population estimates covering the period between April 1, 2020, to July 1, 2023. The state of Oklahoma continued to grow, led by the metropolitan areas, as well as counties in eastern and central regions. The population in the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) continues to grow according to the Bureau. The Tulsa MSA includes INCOG regional counties of Creek, Osage, Rogers, Tulsa, and Wagoner, as well as Okmulgee and Pawnee counties.

The Tulsa MSA is estimated to have grown by 29,419 residents since 2020 which is an increase of 2.9%. Wagoner County has the highest percentage growth at 10.2% and is credited with being the county with the third highest growth in Oklahoma, behind only Canadian and McClain counties. Rogers County came in as the county with the second highest growth in the Tulsa MSA at 5.3%, and surpassing the 100,000 population mark for the first time.

Tulsa County has the highest numerical growth with 13,591 additional residents. Wagoner County has the second highest growth at 8,297 people. It is important to note that all seven of the counties in the Tulsa MSA are estimated to have grown since 2020.

INCOG works with local governments in the region to access and disseminate census data and utilize that information for a wide variety of planning purposes.
