First off, I was thrilled when I stumbled across this Razor product while looking for a go-cart for my son. When I saw this I knew it would be perfect for my son AND his 10 year old twin sister. I ordered him the black Vapor model and her the "Betty". I ordered directly through Amazon and didn't have to pay shipping. I think this was very reasonably priced for the thrill I expect them to get out of them. I gave it a 4 for now because we haven't actually charged them or ridden them.
His arrived first and I just finished putting it together. It came very well packaged and was actually a box inside a box. The cardboard was the thickest corrugated I have ever seen and when trying to dismantle it I couldn't even bend the box bottom. There were no pictures on either package as several other listings refer to. My husband did say he saw the razor logo somewhere but I never did see it. (UPDATE - second scooter arrived in only one box with a huge sticker on the side with a picture of the Betty. This happened right when the kids got off the bus so I had to drag it quickly into the house)
The scooter was in great condition out of the box. Hearing others arrived cracked I inspected it and it looks good. It is also not too heavy and fairly easy to handle for this Mom. I started with the handle bar assembly. Note - I consider myself highly handy. Trying to get the handle bar into the steering column took a bit. The way it is engineered you need to get things lined up just right to get it to actually go into the column. I was thrilled once it was actually in the steering column, however, when I went to tighten it down with the provided hex wrench, it wouldn't catch on anything. Frustrated I moved to the tire.
Installing the front tire was a breeze with the scooter laying on its' side. Once I stood it upright, I turned the handle bars back and forth and all of a sudden it grabbed on something and moved the wheel. I grabbed that hex wrench and got the handle bars nice and tight. YEA! Overall with the handle bar delays, less than 30 minutes to get it done. (Update - second handle bar went in quite easily)
Another note, there was a notice that said "Do Not Let The Battery Freeze". We read this after 3 days in our detached garage with temperatures in the teens. We hope it charges OK. This also foils our plans to hide them in our garage until Christmas. Fortunately, we have a single neighbor who is going to store them in his house.
People have talked a bit about what the appropriate age group is for this bike. I could have seen my children on this easily at 8. My theory is the more experience they get operating motorized vehicles, (our kids drive our neighbor's golf cart frequently) the more confident they will be when they start driving.
So one scooter in the house and assembled! I am guessing the other one will arrive today. I will try to write a more "operational review" after Christmas if the weather holds out and they get a chance to ride them.
I hope this is helpful. Have a wonderful and blessed holiday season! Cheers!
POST CHRISTMAS UPDATE - Ok,....one of the best things Santa/Mom/Dad can hear is "This is the BEST present ever!" The kids were thrilled! Our kids are boy/girl fifth grade twins. Despite the snow and cold, they both bundled up and took them for a spin. It was adorable. My son confessed to his Dad that at first he thought it was a little "girly" but once he went whizzing around on it, he was hooked. My daughter is in a love affair and takes it out as often as we can get the battery charges. His battery seemed to fail faster than his but it seemed better today. Maybe having multiple nights of full charges has helped.
Three things we would like to have:
1) The rear view mirrors that you see on the Daisy model in some Razor pictures
2) The warning bell that you see also in the Daisy pictures
3) The mudflap we have seen on some pics but not on the Vapor or Betty that we received
Overall, we are very happy with the purchase and we hope come this summer we are still as thrilled. I will try to keep this updated with any good/bad reports.
