Dr. Tony Zeiss moderates a discussion with Scott Syfert, author of “The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence” and Dave Fleming, author of “Who’s Your Founding Father?” The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, dated May 20, 1775, preceded the national declaration by more than a year, asserting local autonomy and opposition to British rule in North Carolina.

peter browning, former ceo, OF national gypsum and Sonoco

Peter Browning, founder of Peter Browning Partners, LLC, boasts extensive business experience, notably at Continental Can, National Gypsum, and Sonoco Products.  A renowned board member, author, and lecturer in corporate governance. Browning is the coauthor (with his business partner William Sparks) of “The Director’s Manual: A Framework for Board Governance” published by Wiley in February 2016.  He is a lifetime member of The University of Chicago, Council on the Booth Graduate School of Business; and served on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Manufacturers.

Graham Boone, Executive Director, Heels4Life

Heels4Life is led by former sports agent and partnerships executive, Graham Boone.  A tried-and-true Tar Heel, Boone is a Concord, NC native, Carolina graduate, and Morehead Cain Scholar.  His mission is to extend the reach of Heels4Life by building relationships with business leaders, corporate partners, donors, and external constituents interested in NIL opportunities for Tar Heel football players.

2023 9/11 Scholarship Golf Classic

The Rotary Club of Charlotte’s 21st Annual 9-11 Scholarship Golf Classic will be held Monday, September 18th at Pine Lakes Country Club in Mint Hill.

Following the events of September 11th, Charlotte Rotary committed to provide support through a scholarship fund for the children of the first responders that protect and serve our community. Since 2002 our club has awarded 544 four-year scholarships to families of Charlotte – Mecklenburg first responders!

This year, our goal is to raise $75,000, and you can help through sponsorships, general donations, auction items or playing in the tournament.

Celebrating MECK-DEC Day

The Rotary Club of Charlotte celebrated Meck-Dec Day, May 20th. 

The citizens of Mecklenburg County declared their independence on May 20th 1775,  a full year before the nation as a whole did.  The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was delivered to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia by Captain James Jack.

Edwin Peacock becomes
the 107th President of Charlotte Rotary

Rotary Years run from July 1st to June 30th.  President William (Bradley) finishes up his outstanding year, and President Edwin (Peacock III) is installed as the 107th President of Charlotte Rotary.

Edwin is a 20-year Rotarian and service has been a way of life for him and his family.  He served on Charlotte City Council and as a Trustee to several arts organizations.  Edwin is married to Amy Rupertus Peacock and is President of the Pomfret Financial Company, Inc.
