VILLAGE COMMUNITY HUB UPDATE

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: The Village Community Hub (Municipal Parking Lot) project is still on track to be substantially complete before the end of June. Over the next 2-4 weeks work will include pouring concrete, installing new bench seating, and constructing a new pergola. Binder course and asphalt will be installed in the parking area as soon as possible. We are hopeful the parking area will open 1-2 weeks before the end of June. Some park and other project elements will be installed after the parking lot is open. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make these improvements. We look forward to welcoming the public soon to the new Village Community Hub.

SPRING YARD WASTE AND LEAF COLLECTION

Beginning Monday, April 15, 2024 (weather permitting), leaves and yard waste (clippings, weeds, flowers, etc.) should preferably be placed on the ground  for spring collection (never in bags, not in your tote and not in the street) at the curb for collection by the leaf vacuum.  While we strive to pick up yard waste on your regular garbage day, this schedule cannot always be adhered to depending on volume.   Leave it at the curb - it will be picked up.   REMINDER - The Village does not pick up grass/grass clippings.  Larger branches/limbs are for brush pickup which always starts the last Monday of the month.  Later in the season we would request that yard waste be placed in containers (please check the website or call Public Works at 716-649-4953 for updates).

ReTREE HAMBURG

ReTree Hamburg is a volunteer group working with the Village of Hamburg to reestablish the beautiful tree canopy for which Hamburg was known.  You can leave a legacy of green for your children by purchasing a tree in tribute to a loved one, in celebration of a special event or just to beautify your neighborhood.  The goal is to plant 150 trees in the village streetscape in 2024 to celebrate the 150-year anniversary of the Village of Hamburg.  For more information about Re-Tree Hamburg and how you can support this effort, please click on read more below.

VILLAGE COMMUNITY HUB CONSTRUCTION UNDER WAY

Please be advised that the Village portion of the main parking lot and Peace Park will be closed beginning the second week of March for the construction of the Village Community Hub project. The project will reconstruct the parking lot, add lighting, drainage, sidewalks and include park improvements and expansion. The project is scheduled to be substantially complete by the end of June.

Information Regarding Housing of Homeless Individuals and Families in the Village of Hamburg

Update:  Mayor Tallman will continue to keep residents updated regarding the matter of the homeless individuals and families housed at hotels in the village.  Please see the attached letter with regard to the children attending local schools.

The Erie County Department of Social Services (DSS) has informed the Village of Hamburg that they have entered into a private contract with the owner of the Super 8 and Quality Inn to book up to 120 rooms until the end of the year for the purpose of temporarily housing homeless individuals and families.  At no point was the Village of Hamburg consulted, made aware of, or approve of this arrangement.  The contract is between Erie County DSS and the private hotel operator.

The following statement from Mayor Tallman has been drafted in order to provide accurate, up-to-date information regarding this matter.  Click 'read more' below to see the Mayor's full statement.
