MISSION STATEMENT

Pursuing worship, service, and communities of justice, we are the Presbytery of Chicago, flourishing together by relating people, neighbors, and churches to one another in Christ Jesus.

Chicago Presbytery took action in 2019 to become a Matthew 25 Presbytery — one of 93 presbyteries in the PC(USA) to do so. We are working to dismantle systemic poverty, dismantle structural racism, and build up congregational vitality.

It is a long-standing tradition at Second Presbyterian Church to annually perform Théodore Dubois' “Seven Last Words of Christ” on Good Friday. Originally, this piece was performed at noon; however, several years into the annual tradition, the performance was moved to the evening to accommodate a larger audience. The work is sung by a double quartette, consisting of the Second Presbyterian Church Quartet and four additional guest singers.

Prayer for Peace

This prayer is written by the Presbytery’s Ecumenical and Interreligious Workgroup.

Holy God of All Creation, hear the cries of your people. The world is reeling and our hearts are breaking at the death, suffering and violence that is happening in Israel and Palestine.
