I haven’t written much about the grands in a while and after the depressing topics I’ve offered lately it’s time for something a little lighter, a little brighter. So, I thought I’d offer an update about Sweet Pea and Little Dude AKA Bubba. Think of it as a written version of showing off photos of the grands.
I will be the big 4-0 this coming February, and I have seen and done a lot within those 40 years. But a couple of fond locations will forever remain in my heart… and I am talking about the house I grew up in, as well as my grandma’s house that she still occupies to this day.
“Never throw away a phone number,” I told her, and with that began my last conversation with Alice Stewart. This was a several months back and, anxious to contact a Republican source who had left Arkansas to work for PrePOTUS (the previous president of the United States), I dug into my address file and found a cell phone listing for my old colleague Alice, hoping the number was still active and that she had the info I needed. “First, I’m curious as to what kind of church you are running up there?” asked a caller to my church office.
They are sometimes described as the fourth and fifth branches of state government, and not always admiringly. As often as not, sarcasm colors references to the Arkansas Game and Fish agency and the Transportation Department.
I’ve been doing some spring cleaning in my head. Along with the cobwebs and dust, there are things in there I just need to toss. Things I can’t do anything about no matter how much they annoy me because they’re out of my hands. They frustrate me, anger me, befuddle me, and give me a bad attitude. Some are things other people find just as annoying, angering, and frustrating, and maybe sharing them, and expressing them aloud will clear our heads.
