City earns Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from Government Finance Officers Association

Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recently awarded the City of Rocky Mount the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its’ FY 2024 Fiscal Plan.

The award represents a significant achievement for the city and reflects the commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the city had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, and budget documents in all four categories as well as in the fourteen mandatory criteria within these categories had to be rated “proficient”. The categories are:

    •  a policy document
    • a financial plan
    • an operations guide
    • a communications device

“I am extremely proud of our budget team. Their hard work and dedication is apparent every day in the work they do. I commend the Mayor and City Council for their leadership and our residents for their input,” said City Manager Keith C. Rogers Jr.

The Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation was presented to Budget Manager Keyana Walston as part of the team primarily responsible for having achieved the award.

“This recognition is a reflection of the work of our entire budget office. We will continue to strive for budget processes that are best not only for our departments, but the city of Rocky Mount as a whole,” said Walston.

Over 1,600 agencies participate in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget document, are posted quarterly on GFOA’s website.
