Q:
Is this a sit down restaurant ? Do we order first and find a seat or waited to be seated? Thanks in advanced
A:
Lol this is a two part answer. Yes, this is a sit down restaurant. You wait to be seated. Once seated the waitress/waiter will take your order. Now part two, for take out you order at the counter where the butcher is and you can watch him chop the… more

A warm Spring workday equates to a nice stroll around Boston during lunch! We popped into Hong Kong eatery where the line was long, but the service was quick!
My colleague and I ordered the crispy roast pork and the beef noodles. Together, it came out to be about $38, but we had a whole tray of food leftover to take home! That's about three meals total?!
The ambiance is very straight forward. Grab your food to go, or sit down and eat quickly! There is no waitstaff, but you can order on the kiosk (super convenient!!) and sit down and wait. There aren't a lot of seats, maybe about 6 small tables total, but people come in and out so it's not too bad waiting for a seat while you're waiting for your food.
The only improvement I would ask for is to provide some form of plates for customers to use for dine-in!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 14, 2024
For a quick weekend lunch, I stopped by hong Kong Eatery to get of sense of what they have on their menus and to scope out their BBQ meats.
I quickly figured out the counter service nature of ordering food to eat at the establishment, in the form of a large ordering kiosk (like those at McDonald's and milk tea shops). I put in my order for a fish congee / 生滾魚片粥 ($8) and scallion pancake / 蔥油餅 ($6).
The congee arrived piping hot (I could see staff ladling from a large pot). It had an ok amount of fish fillet pieces, but the stock needed more flavor. Even a touch more stock would do.
The scallion pancake also arrived piping hot, probably just off the skillet. Some would consider it too salty, but not me. It did need more scallion flavor, however.
Overall, despite my nitpicks, I think I got a decent value proposition. The congee and scallion pancake both totaled $14 pre-tax and filled me up considerably. I would return mostly when I crave a Cantonese breakfast.
Note that everything arrives in take-out containers, even if you intend to eat there.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 4, 20232 check-ins
Good spot for a quick lunch or takeout. They have very limited seating that is seat yourself style. There's always a lot of people coming in and out during mealtimes to grab their to go order as well as people who ordered in person and are waiting for their food, so it gets pretty crowded in the small space.
Their rice with meat platters are really affordable and comes with veggies too. I will say it may be better if you get it to go so that you can reheat the food, as their veggies and meat are not always hot. There can be some inconsistencies in terms of how much meat vs bone you get if you order something like duck, but overall this place is solid if you're craving Hong Kong style roasted meats!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 26, 2024Updated review
Been so long since I had HK EATERY. It still hits every time! Price went up a little but definitely worth it. Great quality and decent portion. Roast duck is always a must because it's always fresh.

I definitely need to remember to order a side of veggies of some sort.
TIP : ask for extra ginger scallion oil for your chicken. It goes so well just with the rice itself lolFeb 2, 2023Previous reviewI am highly disappointed tonight... I had a good feeling that things may have changed here. Possibly a new owner. New owner means new menu. I'm all for it. But don't say "yes yes we have it" over the phone but you really don't...
My order tonight was very simple. I ordered salt and pepper pork chops and beef chow fun.
I ordered over the phone. The lady on the phone said yes, spicy pork chops. I asked it's pork chop with bone right? She said yes...
Did not bother to check my bag until I got home. It was the biggest disappointment ever. $17 for this dish? This pork katsu dish? I'm pretty upset lol. After work, you're hungry, anticipating for good food. It was the opposite lol this WAS my favorite place to go for lunch/dinner.... WAS.
Up charged everything and quality dropped.
Sorry...Oct 5, 2022Previous reviewI'm positive there is new ownership here, now. Price has increased and new staff. I don't see my usual familiar faces anymore. They've taken down their plexiglass and added about 6 tables. So their is take out and dine in now. Honestly, the new structure feels more organized. If you know HK EATERY, the line around lunch time can be so long that it's out the door. There would be at times when Uber eats and GrubHub driver will lean over you and towards the counter to show their phones that they're picking up. They have their own section for delivery pick ups now. Thank god. Overall, price increased but still same quality and amount. Roughly $12 for two combination picks. I got my usual which is roast duck and poached chicken with ginger scallion. Still good!

Another day, another rice box from HK Eatery!!May 4, 2022Previous reviewThe salt and pepper shrimp and walnut mayonnaise shrimp is so good here! I highly recommend it! The walnut mayonnaise shrimp is at a decent price here too. Other places are charging almost $30 a plate! This I believe was a little over $20. Maybe $21? For almost a dozen shrimp and broccoli and walnuts.
Dec 17, 2021Previous reviewLunch was amazing this week! This place really takes care of you. Food is always on point. I highly recommend getting their roast duck. I love coming here for lunch!
Oct 4, 2021Previous reviewLegit I come to Hong Kong eatery probably 3-4 times a month. That's like once a week for lunch time. Currently they're not doing dine in, just to go. There's usually a line around noon time but it goes by quick. I normally stick to their bbq choices for lunch or their wonton noodle soup with a choice of bbq meat (honestly the best in town). My favorite cuts from here is definitely their roast duck and char xiu .
Their cuts of bbq meats is always fresh. I love their sate hot oil because they mix it with fried garlic. It goes so well with the wonton noodle soup.
I've tried a few other dishes from here too. Beef chow foon is really good, salt and pepper pork chop over rice is good, black pepper steak over rice is good, and so many more.
I honestly highly recommend this place for cuts of meat. Only downfall is their soy sauce is sort of bland. For others , it might be just good enough. For my Wai Wai people, they'll know what I mean haha Wai Wai's sauce and ginger scallion was no joke. It was 10/10 amazing.
Hit up HK Eatery!Jan 31, 2021Previous reviewBest spot to get spicy salt and pepper pork chops and wonton noodle soup! the service might be a little hard to get use to but bare with them. You won't regret it once you get your order!

Review for Thanksgiving Day! We were looking for a quick lunch and wanted something in Chinatown. We had heard good things about the food here and arrived to a long line. The restaurant was closed for dining but was offering takeout only. They were prepared! The line moved quickly and they had so many different bbq meats to offer. We ordered a few items to try and every thing was savory and succulent. My fave was the soy sauce chicken. So good!

It's more of a 3.5 if anything and I don't have the heart to give it three stars since I literally have been going here for so long, but their quality has def downgraded. I had a rice plate here recently and the meat wasn't warm at all, but I still managed to eat it since the rice was a bit warm. Prices have also increased which is valid because of inflation and rent etc, but if the price is going to increase, at least let the quality match what you're paying for.
Currently looking for another place to get Chinese bbq meat and rice, because it was really disappointing the last visit. Will I still come here if this is what I'm craving and can't find another spot? Most likely. Will update review if I end up going again.
I do like their somewhat new renovation with the place and the HK-esque design. It's more of a buy and eat type of place now for casual take out!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 20, 2023
I stopped by Hong Kong Eatery for a quick lunch while at the office. It was pretty busy, so the restaurant was fairly packed and things are rushed. There isn't much seating either and the vibes are pretty casual.
I ordered the BBQ on Rice with 1 Protein Platter, with the duck as my protein. I'm always a fan of duck and this place does a great job. There is a significant amount of fat on the meat, though. I really wish they added some more veggies to the platter besides the bok choy because the bites without duck are pretty bland. Overall, a good spot for BBQ meat, but not the most inventive dishes.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 19, 2023
This place changed drastically from what it was before. I'd say this renovation is a PLUS. They changed it more into what the name says: eatery. You order at the front and there are to go items in boxes of pickled stuff and all sorts. Honestly prefer this than the serving way they had it. The people working there are so much nicer too! The seating is limited so I recommend either just picking up or coming at an off time for seats.

Awesome BBQ. Got the 2 meat combo with roast duck and roast pork. Both were moist and flavorful as expected. The quality of the duck and roast pork were perfection, melts in your mouth. One of the best meals I had in Boston.
