New Legal Update
2024 PA 20, effective March 28, 2024, extends to September 29, 2025, the deadlines for preserving certain property rights and interests in a marketable record title under the Marketable Record Title Act (MRTA) and for amending records of conveyances and other title transactions to meet recording requirements. 2024 PA 29 recently renamed the Revocation of Paternity Act to the Revocation of Parentage Act, effective sine die. This new Legal Update alerts you to other amendments made, including restrictions around the use of genetic testing and linguistic changes like replacing "father" with "parent" and "paternity" with "parentage."

Amended MRE 702 and 804(b)(4)(B)

Effective May 1, 2024, the Michigan Supreme Court adopted amendments to MRE 702 (bringing it in line with the federal rule) and MRE 804(b)(4)(B) (requiring corroborating circumstances of trustworthiness for any statement against interest exposing a declarant to criminal liability).
