Okay so I am not that into boxing, however I workout a lot and most recently have been jumping from gym to gym around the area in search for not only the "best bang for my buck," yet also clean, friendly, good classes, and basically a kick ass facility. I know most of the time we can not always have our cake and eat it too, but I would definitely say Ktown Boxing will let you!!
I recently, randomly drove by this place on Western in Koreatown and decided to go in to scope it out. I ended up getting the day pass which was $15 dollars (not too bad-I figured).....There were tons of bags, weights, treadmill, and huge spaces for jumping rope, etc. I actually went in thinking I would just check it out and if anything work out alone, but there was a class about to start and the super friendly staff persuaded me to at least try it out- lets just say......I LOVED IT! Wow! I was immediately obsessed with the class and joined the gym that day as well!! Ha!
The front desk charged me an initiation fee- which got me boxing gloves, the t-shirt, these wrap things for your hands/knuckles (I guess for protection), and a jump rope! Not a bad deal at all it was 100 bucks to start (honestly relatively cheap in comparison to other gyms start up fees plus all the boxing stuff was given to me INCLUDED in that 100 bucks) then it was 65 a month for a year which included all the classes and training!! I'm stoked!
Oh yes and by the way- like I said I am not like some big boxer type of girl- the class I took was an intense cardio class that incorporated boxing techniques within the class- some people in it were I think using the class to perfect their own boxing techniques- but my personal take from the class was that it could be used for whatever we preferred......the good thing was it included butt, thighs, and ab workouts!
Quality and Quantity. Definitely a satisfied customer!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Chris S.Long Beach, CA299262322Mar 9, 2012
Having lived in NYC for a couple of years, I was very fortunate to have trained under some great instructors at their home club/gym. So when I moved back home to LA, I had huge expectations, that is:
- trainers who were passionate about their specialty and cared about their students
- competitive, but friendly environment
- fair and reasonable rates
- group classes offered
- attention to technique versus punching a bag for an entire session
- attention to building endurance through strength and conditioning
I've been studying self defense/martial arts for nearly 18 years on and off, and I know that a club/gym employing all or most of the items above is what sets it apart from those clubs/gym that make you false promises.
I stumbled into K Town Boxing Club after trying at least 8 other gyms (including Wildcard, PKG, Redwood's, Gio's, and the Yard just to name off a few) and having been recommended by an acquaintance. I've only been a member since Sept 2011, but I can tell you that this place is a rising star. Sure, they're not yet well known and they're pretty new compared to other gyms in the area, but one can really learn a lot from this place:
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced fighter, Andrew's 8pm Wednesday and 6pm Friday defense classes will take you back to the basics and have you honing your skills (if you've had prior experience). Andrew teaches you not only how to improve your punches or defense, but how to be strategic in your fighting skills. The classes are usually mixed with most beginners attending the Wednesday session, but Andrew knows exactly how to adjust the class so that everyone has something to take away from it. From my personal opinion, Andrew is one of the biggest assets in the gym. He cares about his students and will even take the time after class to answer their questions and demonstrate techniques to help clarify any ambiguity. He pushes you so that you can become better.
Next, though he'll probably make you want to puke at the end of class, Pete's strength and conditioning class will help you build your endurance. As an athlete and fighter himself, he knows exactly the type of training to help those who want to fight, lose weight, or just stay in shape.
Finally, feel like you've learned enough from Andrew's class and have enough endurance from taking all of Pete's classes? Step into Hide's Tues and Thursday sparring classes and put everything you've learned together. Most days, Hide will go over a few basic techniques and then for the remainder of the class, he'll let you guys duke it out. Make sure you have proper headgear and a mouthpiece before you join this class. Also, if you get knocked around a little (esp by a girl), don't take it personally. You're there to learn and become a better fighter, not to build ego or protect your pride.
That's it in a nutshell. K town is a great place to train, especially if you're a beginner. Girls/Women out there, don't be timid or scared to try a class or two. I promise you won't break your nose or mess up your pretty face. Also, you probably won't see a lot of other girls/women out here, but everyone at the gym is helpful and welcoming. As of today, I'm the only girl I see taking the public classes. It'd be nice to see more girls give this place a shot!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - JC C.Los Angeles, CA1185Feb 27, 2014
This is exactly what I've been looking for!! I've always wanted to learn how to box and this is where I am going to do it!! The staff and instructors are very nice and feel they deserve a great review! I emailed them and they got back to me right away about a two free class promotion. I came and tried out both classes they offer with my girlfriend and I couldn't be more exciting about signing up! Most other places are more focused on getting you in shape, kind of more of a workout class. Where as here you get to learn technique as well as the fitness class. Which is what I've been wanting to learn. Can't wait to sign up tomorrow!

The instructor Hide is awesome. He trains you mentally in the sport, and focuses on good fundamentals. This place is really friendly for beginners, but there is a lot of offer to those at a greater skill level, as this is a professional boxing gym.
I'm in the best shape of my life, because I'm not forcing myself to go to a fitness gym to run and lift weights, but I'm doing interesting training exercises that aren't so mundane, like hitting a heavy bag, speed bag, shadow boxing or jumping rope. And since there is a learning goal of learning a martial art, it breaks up the monotony of exercising. Now that I've been here, I'd never sign up for an expensive fitness gym again- this boxing club has a lot of great motivators for you stay in shape.
The facility is in great location and they play great music too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Edward Y.Los Angeles, CA925Nov 29, 2018
Superb boxing club with a knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff. I learned an ENORMOUS amount about the fundamentals from Coach Hide just from attending a handful of the group classes. In fact, I learned more from him from one month of GROUP classes than I did in 8 months of PRIVATE classes in another gym!

Was looking for a discipline for my Kid, and found this amazing gym with a great staff my Kid is only 8 but the trainer treats him like an adult and that's what I was looking for a no nonsense type of place where he could develop and build confidence. The price is very reasonable for the kids class. The trainer Wes is Amazing and you feel like your getting your money's worth. So parents if your looking for a discipline for your 6-12 year old bring them here and you wont regret it.

so I was a little reluctant to write a review because i'm selfish and don't want to take away from my time here, but this place is too awesome not to review.
I tried this place out because I want to lose weight and get a great workout so I made an appointment with Peter. One workout with Peter and I was hooked...I bought 10 sessions with him! He will definitely make you work your butt off. It is torture...but in a great way haha.
Pricing is definitely affordable, and he is way better than any trainer I've had in the past. I've recommended a few friends to join and I believe their pricing for 2:1 training sessions are even better! I look forward to each session and the new torturous workouts!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Leigh J.Los Angeles, CA2584637Mar 8, 2011
Peter is AMAZING. He will work your tush off in a serious way. If you are a female looking to lose weight in a fun way.....def try personal training sessions with Peter. He is affordable and will work around any schedule. It's not just boxing....it is lots of strength training, cardio, abs and arm tonight. You will love the outcome!!!! Beware...sometimes he keeps me 1.5 hours.

This place is awesome. I have only been going here for a few months but really have learned a lot, everyone here is really easy to get along with and always willing to help out less experienced fighters.
What sets this gym apart from other boxing gyms in my opinion is that they train boxers of all skill levels and offer classes included with the membership.
The gym is open to the public from 3pm - 10pm so more experienced fighters can go in and do their own training (or train privately before 5pm) while the rest of us can take classes which include conditioning, offensive training and defensive training.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shay B.Los Angeles, CA217Jan 27, 2011First to Review
I have been searching for a great boxing gym for a long time, and I have finally found it. This gym is amazing..it is clean, well equipped, and spacious. The staff is warm welcoming and friendly, I felt like part of the family from day one. The staff and trainers all have different skills to offer but each one is very knowledgeable about boxing and fitness. They are equipped to teach beginners as well as more advanced fighters. Whether your training for the pros or just want to get in shape you should definitely go to this gym.
