Yesterday major US indices ended mixed with the S&P 500 closing essentially unchanged recouping early losses. After a couple of pretty boring sessions, it is a little bit busier from a macro perspective and the earnings continue to pour in. US futures were modestly lower overnight following an evening of mixed trade in global indices. However, futures recouped those losses ahead of the open after initial jobless claims jumped to 231k from 209k last week, which was the first reading above 230k since August. This was the most recent data point suggesting the labor market is starting to moderate, though we have seen multiple blips like this over the last year. The data caused a reversal in Treasury yields which were modestly higher overnight. This along with some positive vibes on the floor after the gutty New York Knickerbockers win last night has helped equity markets extend the week’s gains. As we head to print the S&P 500 is up ~0.4% trading just over the 5,200 level, leaving it a little more than 1% below the March high. The Russell and the Dow Jones Industrials are both up ~0.6% while the NYSE FANG+ index underperforms slightly hovering around unchanged.
