Kate Moss looked stunning in her John Galliano designed bridal gown when she wed The Kills lead singer Jamie Hince on July 1.
In his first major project since losing his title at Dior, the disgraced designer spoke with Vogue for the first time about his inspiration for the delicate, off-white, beaded gown, and how it helped him get back on his feet.
“She was very professional and very demanding,” said Galliano of his longtime friend. “She dared me to be John Galliano again,” he added. “I couldn’t pick up a pencil. It’s been my creative rehab.”
Moss explains that she wanted “a classic Galliano, those chiffon thirties kind,” and the designer delivered. He cites the Jazz Age and Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerld’s wife, Zelda, as his inspiration.
The classic American author sparked more than just the gown, as Moss recalls an overall feeling of old glamour at the event.
“I wanted it to be kind of dreamy and 1920s, when everything is soft-focus,” Moss explained. “The Great Gatsby. The code name was GG for a while. That light and that kind of fun decadence. It’s rock-‘n’-roll Great Gatsby!”
From her 16 bridesmaids and flowergirls, to the “wolf whistles and applause” as Moss walked down the aisle, read a full account of the celebration courtesy of Vogue.
