This place hidden in Soma is a rare find. They have delicious sushi rolls, tiger prawns, fried soft shell crabs, beer, bento boxes, etc. It's a chill atmosphere without the crowds. It's close to ATT park, so you can walk here after a home win.

I love going here over my lunch. The bento box never disappoints and the service is fast and friendly! So happy to find this gem!

Ordered through Caviar by a pharm rep b/c I confused them for Live Sushi BAR in Potrero, which another rep brought and was bomb.
CONS:
- Major stomachache for half of the office
- Fish definitely smelled, NOT fresh
When you go from dishing out bills for kaiseki meals and having great sushi all the time, it's honestly the worst feeling to have mediocre and crappy sushi. This was absolute sh*t and it gave me the sh*ts.
Caviar, you need to remove them! This is unacceptable!
AVOID if you love your body and your rectum!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 2, 2015
In the mood for sushi yesterday, we made a return visit to Live Sushi Bistro which was conveniently only a few blocks away. We had only had takeout from here before but it had been good at the time. We went in the early afternoon so there was basically nobody in there except us.
The menu has a respectable amount of variety on it, especially for the rolls, which is what we came for. We ordered the SFPD, SFFD, Romeo and Juliet and then we like the SFPD so much that we ordered it a second time. The SFFD and Romeo and Juliet were both good, but not great. The SFPD roll definitely has us wanting to come back for more.
We also tried some sort of deep fried unagi nigiri. I liked it a bit more than my companions did, but I do agree with them that the unagi slice they used should have been thicker to keep the breading exterior from overpowering it.
Overall, this is likely to be our go to sushi spot in the future. The acceptable quality, decent pricing and most importantly their good location makes me say that "I'm a fan".Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Nov 20, 2013
I bought a Restaurant.com certificate for this Live Sushi Bistro and used it last night for a late night sushi dinner. This place is tucked away across from the Jail, between bail bond shops and in an alley. The menu is extensive with all kinds of Japanese dishes. The employees are mostly Chinese and the service was good. The food however was less then stellar. Here is what we had:
Mixed Tempura 4 stars good portions lite not greasy
Crab Napoleon 4 stars interestingly put together layered crab and fish
Ama Ebi 5 stars fresh small and tasty best of the night
Hamachi Kama 2 stars nicely grilled but the Ponzu sauce was some kind vinegar
concoction.
Hamachi Passion 0 star What was that? sliced Hamachi, avocado, and slaw on top
16 pc Sashimi 2 stars only the Salmon and the Halibut were good, bone in one
of the pieces.
Black Cod 0 stars Not fresh, small slice, kinda sour taste, dry and stiff.
Overall, there are some things that are good to order and some things you really shouldn't order.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Jan 4, 2017
In such a sketchy party of SOMA, (next to bail bondsmen and court house), w subpar food.
I came here because I love Sushi Live on Caviar, but won't be coming back to eat here in person. I'll stick w online delivery when I'm desperate for sushi...
** giving it two stars and not one because I do enjoy it when I order it on Caviar.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 225340477Feb 13, 2014

Hello Catrina!
We value your opinion and business, so we are happy to know you enjoyed our food and service. Hope to see you here soon again! - Lushi Z.San Francisco, CA88222110Dec 2, 2017
It is safe to say this is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in SF! I have shamelessly dined here on 10 separate occasions in the past two months. Great food! Fast service and the place is usually empty so there will never be a wait! I hear they have another location which I'm sure is much more popular but I am fine with this location since it is so close to my work. Another perk is that they almost always have Happy Hour! I believe their HH times are 4-6pm and 8-10pm.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Family Affair Roll
49er Roll
Spicy Tuna Roll
Uni
Black Cod
Here are a few things that did not make it to my staple list:
Chicken Karage
Fried Soft Shell Crab
Ramen
Viper Roll (or any fried roll)
Give this place a try, good food and service. Quick and convenient as well.
P.S. This place is great for sake bombs or really any drinks and my dining group could be the sole reason why this restaurant is empty, haha!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 14932043Apr 13, 2016
It was very good and tastes very fresh. They were extremely nice. I loved the fatty Tuna and Cucumber Hamachi rolls. Also liked the Salmon and Tuna sushi pieces. Overall it was good.
The only thing was they serve Trader Joes mochi ice cream for dessert; I don't know why I would expect them to make that. But it would be better if they had a dessert that was home made.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 22, 2015
Went to Live Sushi Bistro to check out the local sushi scene and to fulfill that craving for shrimp tempura. The bistro is inside of an "office-type building," with a long hallway leading into the restaurant. Bar and sushi prep counter directly across from each other, very spacious/roomy. Sushi was okay. Staff could be friendlier and a bit more inviting.
