Some might argue that the selection is small- I disagree. The selection is perfect- both pastries and breads. I bought baguette as well as a bunch of treats and they did not last the day with my family.
Definitely go here and get some of their hot coffee to go with what you order.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 7, 2024
The line for Standard Baking, no matter the time of day or season, is always out the door. Make sure to get here bright and early if you want your pick of pastries and breads!
Everything I've tried has been consistently delicious. Their baguette tastes straight outta Paris, and their pastries haven't disappointed me yet. The Fruit Buckle is like a giant fruit muffin packed with flavor. At some point I enjoyed a savory handheld bread with cheese that I still think about to this day.
The interior is truly standing room only, so plan to enjoy your purchase on a nearby bench or overlooking the bay. It is still very thoughtfully designed nonetheless--you truly feel as though you've entered into an authentic French bakery in the countryside.
The staff is efficient (they have to be since the line is always 85 people long!), so make sure to have your order prepped and ready by the time you get up front.
My only complaint is that I wish they had more savory pastries and a slightly larger drinks menu (iced chai, maybe?)!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 10, 2024
Um, yes, it's worth waiting for.
It smells divine inside, and there are at least 20 different things to buy once you get inside. Cookies, pastries, breads, seasonal offerings... my eyes couldn't settle down. It's overwhelmingly beautiful to look at, and the flavor, freshness, and texture bring it home.
I bought an Asiago fougasse that was gorgeously colored, with cheese of just the right thickness: not so little as to burn, not so much as to be undercooked. It was crusty, seasoned, fluffy on the inside. Perfection.
I went around 3p on Sunday and there was a lull in the line. As I was leaving, 12 people were marching up the street.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ann T.South Windsor, CT2824655Jun 8, 2024
Small space so there is usually a wait (mine was only ten minutes). Had the cold brew (good), croissant (nice and flaky but a bit too buttery for me), the sea salt chocolate pecan cookie (very good), and the chunky chocolate rye cookie (amazing!). There is some parking right in front and lucked out that day.

Stopped by earlier today because I heard this place is well known in town, and it was really tasty! So many options, and it all looked delicious. The only downside is that we had a gluten free person in our group with celiac's and this bakery does not have anything gluten free without possible cross contamination, so they couldn't eat anything. Nevertheless, the rest of us ordered morning buns and they were great! Service was quick, too. Check it out if you're in the area!

I was in Portland again so I had to stop by here! After it always being sold out, I finally got an Asiago Fougasse. It was good and had a cacio e pepe vibe. I liked it, but my friend thought it was okay. I got my usual Procuitto and Asiago Croissant and Morning Bun with Walnuts, which are always good. The cheese on the croissant was a little funkier than usual. I tried a Gingerbread Cake which was fine, but I'm not a huge gingerbread fan in general. I probably wouldn't get it again as I prefer the chocolate cork. I also got a Chocolate Pecan Financier. Overall worth stopping by for some treats!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 5, 2023Previous reviewI came here to pick up a few items. I got my go to Morning Bun with walnuts and my favorite savory pastry, the Prosciutto & Asiago Croissant. I also tried the Lemon Tart which was basically a lemon square in tart form and the Frangipane Tart. The Frangipane Tart was pear, which I thought got lost with the almond flavor. I preferred it when I had it another time with a different fruit (maybe plum), but it was still worth getting.
I still want to try Asiago Fougasse, which seems to always be sold out.
Standard Baking is still a standard stop for me when in Portland.Oct 5, 2021Previous reviewI did a massive online order here: Morning Bun with Walnuts, Prosciutto & Asiago Croissant, Chocolate Cork, Madeleine, Frangipane Tart and Fruit Buckle (blueberry). The buckle seemed okay and nothing special and I thought the madeleine could have used some more butter. However the morning bun hit the spot as did the frangipane tart which I think had plums on it. The prosciutto and asiago croissant was HUGE. It was very delicious and I would get it again. It was a perfect savory treat and possibly the favorite thing I ordered. The chocolate cork was small, but had a nice chocolate coffee flavor.
Overall this place always has a line (even for pick up) and seems a bit over hyped to me. Everything is delicious, but I would definitely not wait over 10-15 minutes for it. - Apr 16, 2024
YUM. I have very, very high standards for baked goods and this place really impressed me! We stopped by on our way back from Boothbay early afternoon--there's a big parking lot right outside so that's not an issue. We got the baguette, butter croissant, chocolate rye cookie, frangipane tart and chocolate chip financier. Everything was very good, but what stuck with me was the financier. I'm normally not a huge fan but this one hit different. Perfectly caramelized so the edges have a toffee taste and inside is moist and chewy--so so yummy. Definitely recommend this place if you're ever in Maine!

Beautiful and delicious pastries! I bookmarked this popular bakery when I was researching Portland. We stopped by in the early afternoon and missed the morning crowd. There was still a good selection of treats left. We chose the morning bun with walnuts and the blueberry oat scone. Delicious! The morning bun is crispy on the outside and softer on the inside with the perfect amount of sweetness. Love it with the nuts. Highly recommend this bakery!!
