Scoutmaster News - Elise & Dale

There were two campouts in the past month. Scouts camped at the Nassau Observatory in April. Despite the cold, windy weather, Scouts escaped to a nearby creek and ironically warmed up enough to have some fun in the water. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy to open the observatory. The May campout was a COPE event at the Firelands Scout Reservation. Scouts played a team building game and rode a rope swing.

Troop elections were held in April. The members of the 2 Troops elected their new leadership team for the next six months. Congratulations to all!

  • Senior Patrol Leaders: Clara Rauschert, John McCarron
  • Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders: Marie Gentile, Charlotte Oldham, Ryan Mostoller, Joe Nester
  • Quartermasters: Elizabeth Nester, Ryan Ingersoll
  • Historian: Madeleine Frazee
  • Troop Guide: Terrill Marshall
  • Troop Scribe: Sofia Rauschert, Alex Henry

Troop dues will be deducted from Scout Accounts this month. This is a semi-annual deduction of $25. Scouts may need to make a deposit into their scout accounts to cover the dues. Please ask Mrs. Forster for your account balance.

2024 Scout Summer Camp:

The 2024 Summer Camp will be at Camp Manatoc from July 14 – 20. Registration is $425 through July 5th and then the price will be $440 per Scout. The Troop has 22 boys and 10 girls signed up. Please make sure you are current on payments. Certain Merit Badges may incur an additional fee for class materials. The summer camp swim test is June 9th at Manatoc from 1-4 PM. Scouts are not allowed in the water without an annual swim test. You can find several useful forms here:

Manatoc Service Opportunity:

There are plans to plant 200 chestnut trees at Camp Manatoc this Saturday, April 13th.  This would be a good opportunity for Scouts needing Conservation hours for rank advancement.  Pre-registration is required, so let Mrs. Nester or I know if your Scout is interested in helping plant trees.

Electricity Merit Badge:

Brad Mularcik has been conducting classes during Troop meetings for Scouts to earn the Electricity MB. The next meeting date is 5/21/24. Please print the Electricity MB worksheet and have your Scout complete this worksheet outside of class. During the Troop Meetings, the scouts completed 3 requirements (3, 11a, 11b) that involved building something. If your scout missed this opportunity, please contact Mr. Mularcik.

Northern Ohio Golf Charities & Foundation Service Opportunity:

Northern Ohio Golf Charities, Inc. (NOGC) is a volunteer organization which has helped conduct professional golf tournaments at Firestone Country Club for over sixty-five years. The organization is looking for volunteers that may walk with the golfers and hold a scoreboard. Volunteers ages 13-23 are free and volunteers ages 24 and up will be charged a $75 fee to cover uniforms, food, and a 5-day pass for the PGA Tournament. The organization is looking for a multiple-day commitment if possible. Jim Kozlosky is part of the NOGC and a new member of the Troop. Please reach out to him if you have any questions at: Jameskozlosky@gmail.com. Registration is open until July 1st and more information may be found on the NOGC website.

The Values of Scouting

Scouting is a values-based program with its own code of conduct. The Scout Oath and Law help instill the values of good conduct, respect for others, and honesty. Scouts learn skills that will last a lifetime, including basic outdoor skills, first aid, citizenship skills, leadership skills, and how to get along with others. For almost a century, Scouting has instilled in young people the values and knowledge that they will need to become leaders in their communities and country.

To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
