Low pressure over the North Sea dominates the weather across Britain and Ireland today with showers affecting many regions at times although there will be some drier and brighter spells developing at times too.
There have been a number of showers circulating around that area of low pressure overnight and this showery weather continues throughout the day. Some areas are managing to start the day off on a dry and bright note but it won't be long before the cloud bubbles up and further showers break out quite widely, these turning heavy and thundery in places. The heaviest showers are expected to occur across an area extending from northern England, up across southern and central Scotland and towards northeast Scotland where some slow-moving thundery downpours may bring the risk of localised flash flooding.
Despite the showers, there will be some drier and brighter spells developing in-between and by the time we get to this afternoon some areas will become mainly dry with western and southern coastal regions most favoured to enjoy a largely fine afternoon.
Top temperatures today will range from 16°C to 20°C in many regions, the highest values coming towards the southeast of England in any prolonged drier and sunnier spells, but where the showers are persistent and frequent it will be cooler with brisk winds.
Showers will tend to ease this evening and tonight with some clear spells developing, however, a few showers will continue to feed in, especially for areas exposed to the north/northwest breeze, and these showers will break out more widely once again tomorrow, the heaviest and most frequent showers across central and eastern regions with western districts seeing more in the way of drier and brighter conditions.
