Maybe there is poor quality control on these? It seems like people either love them, or hate them because they leak.

Anyway, mine works great and I love it. I bought it for use in my
Osprey Stratos 24 Daypack . The fact that the bladder is rigid makes it much easier to insert. I also like the magnet on the bite valve: it keeps the tube from flopping around everywhere.

The only thing that I'm not wild about is the bite valve. It takes a little bit of work to get a good pull of water. I don't have experience with other ones, though, so this could be totally normal. I'm not going to dock any stars for it.

2L is a good size for about 10 miles in mild weather. I think I might pick up a 3L one as well, for longer hikes or for when it is especially hot.

This his a very well designed product and fits into the contoured sleeve on the Osprey Atomos with no problems. It has the best bite valve of any system I've tried (Platypus, Coleman, Camelpak, Sawyer) and provides exceptional water flow with little effort and it doesn't leak.

The hose has a unique magnetic clip to hold it along your pack's chest strap for easy access and under most situations it works quite well.

The hose is a tad shorter than some, but it wont be an issue for most backpacker.

I LOVE the weight and design of my Platypus setup, however. I have two 3L bags and have created my own "Gravity Works" setup but with a Sawyer filter in the mix. The bag's are SUPER light weight, have completely removable hoses and work flawlessly.

I use one for dirty water (marked with sharpie) and fill it and then run the clean into an identical waiting bag. No lost water, completely contained, clean, water.

With this bag in the mix, it's more cumbersome because I have to monitor the process instead of just leaving it on the ground to run itself. On the Platy, you insert the INBOUND clean water hose directly into the click lock and it fills the bag. Then you disconnect the filter hose and click in the bite valve hose and you're good to go. The clean bag IS your hydration bag.

Because this hose isn't removable, you have to filter the clean water into the Nalgene screw lid. This means the hose can fly out and debris can enter. It's not a closed system. And because the lid is on the side at the top, you have to fill it sideways with the lid facing up in order to let the water bag expand.

It's also a few oz. heavier than the Platy, but it's go the back contour and harder plastic shell. If the opening was fully closed during filling because it had an industry standard click valve, it would be ideal for Osprey packs, even with the extra oz.

Great bag, superb bite valve. Proprietary design of hose connection makes it less versatile than other options.

I bought this water reservoir to fit an Osprey Kestral 38L pack, although it will fit into many other backpack brands. The bladder is very solidly built and is designed to make using it very easy. Simply fill it through the conveniently large opening, slip it into the space between the pack and the mesh (which is against your back), and run the hose through the loops on the shoulder straps. The absolute best feature of the bladder is the fact that the mouth piece has a strong magnet built in. All you do is slide the included clip onto an adjustment strap on your pack where you want the mouthpiece to be positioned. When you take a drink, just move the mouthpiece close to the magnet and it snaps into place and stays in the perfect location for your next drink. Much better than a more complicated clip-on holder. The XX-large holds about 3L of water (~3kg) and it distributes the weight close to your spine. Filling it with cold water also keeps your back cool. No more water bottles for me!

I got this for my hiking buddy for Christmas and we were so excited. It looked awesome and had some great features. Unfortunately, the first time we filled it up it leaked all around the seams.

Based on other reviews, the Osprey HydraForm sounded like a good choice for my Osprey pack. I think the design works well, but I have hardly used the reservoir because the water comes out with a medicinal taste. Two friends have the same problem. Many soakings in water, one with baking soda, a couple of days of vinegar have not eliminated the taste. Soaking in Seventh Generation free and clear (i.e. no scents) dish detergent may have helped. Nothing found on Osprey web site about this problem. A hundred links about "taste free" have not helped. If it were not for the taste in the water, I think I would be happy with it.
Little annoyances: no directions on how to remove the drinking tube for cleaning or replacement; the drinking tube brush does not quite go to the end of the tube, so has to be used from both ends of the tube, but the drying frame works as hoped.
This is my first reservoir so I cannot compare it to others. So I continue to rely on Nalgene bottles.

Bought this to fit into my REI Flash 18 daypack and it fit the pack perfectly. Wish the tube could be routed on the left hand side of the reservoir rather than fixed to the right, but that is a relatively minor complaint. However, I was really disappointed that it did not come with the magnetic sternum strap as advertised. Took off 2 stars due to this. If Osprey would like to correct this omission, I'd be happy to revise my review. Somehow, I think the packaging, which is easy to remove the product from, somehow contributed to the loss of the clip prior to shipping. Don't want to go through the hassle of returning item and waiting for a new one just to get this small piece. Will buy in a store next time so I can personally check all contents.

5.0 out of 5 stars
Reviewed in Japan on July 19, 2013

Good!

3.0 out of 5 stars
Reviewed in Japan on August 5, 2013

4.0 out of 5 stars
Reviewed in Japan on July 24, 2011

5.0 out of 5 stars
