Convergence-The approach toward a definite value, a definite point, a common view or opinion, or toward a fixed or equilibrium state.

This “Convergence” was established in 2009 by two people who were separated by the Atlantic, and a few countries, who had the same vision. This vision was to come together and not only raise awareness for a non-profit that helps families of the military[Operationhomefront.net], but to also raise awareness of the effect Art has had and can continue to have on people’s lives. This idea was that like war, art can greatly affect people’s lives.

In the spring of 2008 a soldier was put on orders to dabble in the effects of war herself. Over a year she documented and wrote stories about how the “war” in Afghanistan was affecting the people who not only she worked with but also the people of Afghanistan. She came to a point where she found it hard to express herself through the orders. At this point she really didn’t know what to do.

Contacting her friend in the states daily impregnated an idea of greatness, a convergence if you will. Her friend had the idea that maybe; just maybe, they should try to create an art show that will change the world around them. And from that point on, that was all she could think about.

And from that one shot of an idea, “Convergence NYC” was born.

People sent art from all over the globe to present in a show that would be held in a small part of Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. It gave the soldiers present in that area a moment to relieve themselves of the obvious surrounding burdens, and relax into a moment of creativity.

After seeing the response in Afghanistan, the soldier and her friend were blessed with the possibility to have this show displayed in one of the most historical places art has ever been a presence in; the 69th Infantry Regiment Armory on 68 Lexington Ave. NYC, NY.

For those who do not know, In 1913 the Association of American Painters and Sculptors put together the International Exhibition of Modern Art. This show displayed over 1,250 paintings, sculptures, and decorative works by over 300 American and European artist. Ex: Marcel Duchamp, Vincent van Gogh, Edouard Manet, Pablo Picasso, etc.…

This was one of the most groundbreaking events in American Art history.

The idea is to keep this tradition true. We want to open the Armory once again so the public can view the Art that is present all around them. From Fine artist to street artist, we want everyone to “Converge” and bring back the true Art in this world, the Art that people spend lifetimes making so that people like you can embrace, enjoy and forget where you are.

Convergence NYC is the next generation of artist coming to you from all over the world to slap you in the face with a movement that is going to Rock the Art world. There will be bands there will be Art and there will be lovers of art mingling once again in the Walls of the Armory. Come join the Market Place Gallery in August , we hope to see you there.

We are still taking donations and anything will help. We will start building on Aug. 24th if anyone out there wants to help. If there are any artist out there that have any questions or concerns please call or email me. I will lead you in the right direction.

The Market Place Gallery Presents…

Located in Albany’s Industrial South end, The Marketplace Gallery has become Albany’s premier contemporary arts venue.  The Marketplace Gallery showcases visual and performance artists from the Capital Region, NYC and beyond.  It has an artistic mission with a social goal: bring art to the people.

Established after the first Convergence show in March of last year, Artist from all over the country have blessed the walls of the Contompasis Brother’s gallery.

Bringing Art of Epic Proportions has been the goal of Samson and a goal, that with every show, has been accomplished repeatedly.  Even with other venues he has expanded his Ideas of how he can create Art that people of all back grounds can enjoy.

In all of the 29 years I have been on this planet, I have neer met any one so motivated about the Art world. He oozes art out of his pores.

This Year…

The program this year has surpassed our own expectations and we still have over a month to go. Greyegg McKenna, who has become the master and commander of this mission, has really put the hat on and rode out with this “convergence”. He has helped pick up where Sam and I left off last year, but with a newer and fresher outlook. Samson Contompasis, over the past year and a half, has established himself as a Gallery owner (The Market Place Gallery) and has been extremely busy planning events and promoting artist in Albany . He has brought in Artist from all over the globe and is continuing with that daily. I see this as a build up for the show here in NYC.

The three of us have been spread all over this great state looking for Artist such as yourself to help expand the greatness. We three have no doubt in our mind that this event is not only going to be great, wonderful, amazing and all that jazz; but, we believe that is going to push the Art community into a whole new realm. The energy that all three of us bring mixed with all the fresh Ideas of the Artist that are piling in to the show really gets me amped. I sit back and think so that I can write these blogs and the freshness of it all amazes me.

Although we three are the Leaders of this Art Army, we are never going to be able to do it without all the amazing Artist out there. We do not want this to be another type of art fair, or vending space; we want this to be a total converging state of creativity. A moment in the history of all our lives where we came together to make a difference for others and ourselves. A gathering of people with total different ideas that are able to mesh them together and create GREATNESS.

DO NOT hesitate to contact Greyegg, Sam, or myself (Gabby) with any questions or Ideas…

Always think about how we can make this world a better place through ART and we will never have to worry about failure… the word is a non-existent negativity that is only held by those that have no faith in themselves… We are the only thing that can hold us back.. and holding back just ain’t what were about.. lets ROCK THIS STATE!!!!
