So far, seems excellent!
5 Stars
So far, seems excellent!
- Additional New comments at end :)- This has several design features that I like *much* more than the design of my old Dremel 395:1) the "flip and lock" switch for stabilizing the head while changing-out bits and whatnot is *SO* much easier to use than the small metal button, especially if the user has any degree of arthritis;2) the On-Off switch is good because it allows the user to set a given speed to use for a given phase of a project, without having to constantly rotate the speed dial to also turn the unit off and on;3) the safety feature built in, which prevents the "flip and lock" switch from being engaged while the unit is On - it's a physical safety in that the two switches can't occupy the same space simultaneously, which appears to be "simple" but is, I think, very clever, plus reliable and functional;PLUS the "lock switch" can function as a Safety if one needs to put the tool down to adjust the work or whatever, because an additional safety is just a darned good idea;4) the B&D unit has a slightly smaller circumference;5) the ergonomic and rubberized textured grip of the RTX-B is easier for me to hold and control;6) although I haven't yet put the RTX-B through its proverbial paces, the additional power (2 Amps for the RTX-B as opposed to 1 Amp for the 395) *should* let it power through some heavier jobs than the has been able to handle. I looked through looked at literally EVERY rotary tool on Amazon and via internet searches, and, although it's entirely possible I missed some, I personally didn't see anything else which had 2 Amps. Now, I do realize that amps does not automatically translate into torque, but it *can*, and often does - but I'll find out soon enough whether this can nudge through things that the 395 hung-up on. - I *especially* like that I was able to get it for an excellent price through Amazon LLC, of course LOL!But in all seriousness, so far, this seems to be a really nice tool, even for a higher price, much nicer than I had actually expected. I've been very pleased with my B&D jigsaw ((got that as an impulse purchase - one of my few good ones, LOL! - at Home Depot during a Father's Day sale, but it's been serving me quite well)), so I'm cautiously predicting the RTX-B will also work out well ;)I'll try to remember to add to this comment once I've used it for a while...OH!!! - One thing I almost forgot - as I added to the Title, mine came with no collets,***ADDENDUM - Actually, it did, but the collet was pushed up into the nut, *and* both have a black finish, so I simply didn't see that it was in there until I tried to force a mandrel into the top and the collet popped out the bottom - Sorry, my mistake! - OTOH an additional collet kit never hurts...*** so you might need a collet kit or the Dremel 4486 keyless chuck ...*AVOID* the Forney 60264!!!, it butts up against the Housing Cap of the RtX-B and therefore does not screw down enough to engage the jaws to even hold a 1/8" bit/mandrel safely, never mind anything like a smaller-diameter drill bit. See my review of that item for more details if desired, but suffice it to say I'm returning that thing and ordering two of the Dremel 4486 chucks, because I just tried my existing one (got it last year) and it works perfectly on the RTX-B. SO that way I can keep one chuck "parked" on my 395, one on the RTX, and one spare... - As of 14 May:Today, I finally got around to cutting some stainless steel tubing - I put on one of the Dremel "pinkish" cutting wheels ((I think they are Aluminum Oxide)) and it cut so quickly that it took me by surprise. I had to actually put the speed down on the slowest possible setting to prevent sparks :o But this cut very easily, although going slooooow is good so as to not cause things to over-heat ((including the tool)), *and also* because going more slowly seems to lower the amount of smelly and irritating fumes.NOTE: Wear Breathing Protection!!!The RDX is surprisingly =QUIET= , probably because it has that extra Amp of power and doesn't have to work quite as hard. It also feels solid and steady, but not heavy.- I also had made a "jig" to hold the tool and steel steady and feed the tube at the correct height and reasonably-well centered. I do have a Dremel workstation, and this tool *does* fit into it, but I don't have enough additional clamps and whatnot and had to build a jig anyway. Yes, that *is* plywood scrap (glued and nailed), duct tape (sticky sides together over the tool) with a Velcro(R) closure holding the tool ((but *not* covering any of the air vents!)); and 2 cut 'n' taped plastic cups as a test "shield" to keep the metal dust from flying everyplace... - So, still, so far so good :)

I have used many a rotary tool, and I would say this is the best in its class. It is well designed and the details are honed. It is really much better than its price suggests. The reasons it is well designed include: the Fliplock, the speed control, the grip, and the motor.

The Fliplock is the best feature of this tool, and it really sets it apart from its peers. If you have messed with the collets on other rotary tools, you will be amazed the first time you use the RTX's Fliplock. It is also an important safety feature, as the tool will not turn on with the Fliplock locked. It even has a grippy rubber on the Fliplock that I like the feel of.

The speed control. It says it's 3-speed, but in fact it has infinite control between (and above and below) these speeds. It goes below the 1 and above the 3.

The grip is as nice as it can be. How holdable a rotary tool is makes a huge difference when doing intricate work. For this type of work, the tool is held like a pencil near the tip. Ideally this would be a small area, however it must have some width as it has the spindle going through it. I really feel that the RTX makes the best use of this space. They placed rubber there and made it thin in one direction (see pictures). This makes it easy to control like a pencil.

I can't stand those whiny Dremel motors! This motor is a dream in comparison. It is merely a quiet whir. It is powerful, keeps its torque, and heats up a lot less than the Dremel I have used.

Overall, I have no flaws with this tool. I think that it is designed well to the last detail. The fact that I can get it so affordably is really a steal. There is the RTX-B and RTX-6. They are the same tool, GET WHICHEVER IS CHEAPER AT THE TIME YOU PURCHASE. You won't be disappointed.

I use a rotary tool practically every day on metal. I had many Dremel tools fail because of ingested metal dust. Dremel support was good at first replacing the tools but then, not so much. Plus the replacement tools would suffer the same fate. So I switched to a Foredom flex shaft but although that is a nice professional tool the shaft maintenance became too much trouble as well as having to switch hand pieces. I no longer use that and will probably sell it soon. Also tried a much more expensive Proxxon rotary tool which also failed. Well so far after a couple months I am very fond of these Black & Decker RTX-B three speed tools. I have bought two of them from Amazon and have no problems with either. They are powerful enough and three speeds is more than I need. I use one for cutting on high speed and the other with sanding drum on medium. That way I am not switching bits during the work. I do not use the small sanding drums that came with the tool but the collet that comes with the tool 1/8" is good for what I use. Happy Happy Happy

Update after three months both my RTX 3S rotary tools have a lot of play at the collet shaft. I just sent them to the service center. Since they do not repair this item I am hopeful they will replace them. So I must take back my Superior design statement. It seams the front bearings are not good at all. Too bad because otherwise it is a great tool.

Final update after send the units back to Black and Decker service they sent them back saying they were within specs and the were no serviceable parts anyway. Basically it is a disposable unit and not designed for any production work. Still I like the tool's power and size but the front shaft design had me puzzled. So I opened it up. The front shaft is not part of the motor. It is a separate shaft with a good bearing easily changed if needed held in with a cir-clip. There is a dogbone on the end of the shaft that engages a socket on the fan then the motor with it's own bearings. Mystery solved and back to 5 stars. If you notice play at the front shaft don't worry about it, it is normal.

Everyone's right, the stock collet and collet nut are garbage. Replace them. I wanted to see what others were talking about so I didn't buy a replacement right away. Immediately after unpackaging it was hard to even insert a bit because the collet lip was so sharp. After I got a bit in and used it for a while it was difficult to get the bit out. I found that I had to pretty much unscrew the collet nut completely every time I wanted to change bits. I'd get a  Dremel 4485 Quick Change Collet Nut Kit  with this and forget about it.

The bad:
I read a lot of reviews saying it was quiet which sounded nice. It is... when on the low setting. After you get past low an appreciable amount it jumps up in speed and gets loud. On the high setting it's actually annoyingly loud. I have a
WEN 2305 Rotary Tool Kit with Flex Shaft  that I got off eBay for cheeaaappp and it's actually quieter if the housing screws are perfectly tight to keep vibrations down. No matter how hard you grip the Black & Decker it's going to buzz like mad.

The good:
It's quite a bit more powerful than the Wen rotary I have. Even on the low setting it's surprising what kinds of jobs I can get away with doing. It's pretty cheap.

Bottom line:
I'd recommend this for some one who's going to get quite a bit of heavy use out of their rotary tool. I've gotten by just fine with my Wen for a number of years and the only reason I "replaced" it was because I thought the motor brushes died on me. The Wen uses a real funky sized motor brush that's hard to source and the company doesn't supply replacements so don't even ask them. After opening the Wen the problem was just that the PCB for the variable speed pot had gotten fried somehow and had a lifted/open trace. Resoldering this with a jumper wire completely fixed the problem and it's back in action. The Wen is more than capable for most jobs I find. My only gripes with it are that I have to crank the speed a bit to get proper torque and that it doesn't accept standard Dremel accessories. (If you're thinking about the Wen after reading my review you need to know you won't be able to use it with Dremel accessories like the
Dremel 678-01 Circle Cutter and Straight Edge Guide  unless you can find some sort of adapter, or modify the housing yourself to match the threading)

Now I use the two rotary tools side by side for different jobs and they get things done. I don't need the Black & Decker, but the added torque is nice to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars トルク十分です

買ってよかったです。トルクも十分、研磨作業が捗ります。細かい作業はフレキシブルシャフトを併用することで困ることはありません。何故、国内販売がなかったのでしょう。

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing

I wasn't too sure of how good of a tool it would be, given that the dremel equivalent (with a weaker motor) costs ~140$ at home depot. The tool has continuously adjustable speed settings with indents at key numbers. very pleased with the tools power and the locking mechanism. at top speed it is very loud but otherwise the sound is reasonable, and it runs very smoothly/comfortably everywhere. overall feels like a quality tool but the price does show in some places where the plastic clearly isn't formed perfectly and the locking bit at the end tended to jam (biting into the bits and wouldn't allow easy swap) until it got worn down a bit.
overall you get all the utility of a much more expensive tool, doesn't come with enough attachments so buy a kit i suggest the genesis GART208 208 piece accessory set for ~25$ which also comes with smoother working replacement locking bits.
overall 10/10 would recommend

Needed it to grind out rust and damaged metal from a cast-iron mailbox, then polish the new surfaces for re-painting.

Worked really well and I am happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente equipo
