TexasSure Vehicle Insurance Verification
What is TexasSure?
TexasSure is a program the state created to reduce the number of uninsured motorists in Texas. Local, county, and state law enforcement and vehicle registration offices use TexasSure to check if vehicles registered in Texas have auto insurance.
TexasSure is a partnership between the Texas Department of Insurance, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, and Texas Department of Information Resources.
Access to TexasSure for Texas courts (HB 1693)
House Bill 1693 allows justice and municipal courts to have access to TexasSure. TexasSure data is available through the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS). The Department of Public Safety (DPS) manages TLETS.
Justice and municipal courts can contact DPS at tlets@dps.texas.gov for more information.
Check your auto insurance
Texas law requires drivers to show proof that they can pay for the accidents they cause. Most drivers do this by buying auto liability insurance.
After you buy insurance, your company will report that to TexasSure. When you get your insurance policy, check that the VIN on your vehicle is the same as the one on your policy and vehicle registration. Let your company know if the numbers don't match.
