Among the top golf courses open to the public in South Florida, University Park Country Club is a semi-private club with a 27-hole golf course designed by Ron Garl. Opened in 1991 and rated almost five stars on GolfPass, the course makes great use of the land and water on the site, gently nested in a natural conclave away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Each nine is a par-36 so any combination of two 18s is a par 72. The last nine holes are the longest at more than 3,700 yards from the tips. There are six sets of tees, so the course sets up well for all abilities, starting out at less than 2,500 yards on the first two nines. Water comes into play on the majority of holes, and there are plenty of bunkers, too, both around the greens and in the fairways. Still, this well conditioned course, when played from the right tees, is both challenging and fair. Some of the highlights include the ninth and 18th holes, both of which have greens protected by water. The par-4 27th hole has water in front of the tee and behind the green. University Park Country Club also offers excellent practice facilities that include a range, short-game area and practice greens. Lessons are also available. Inside the clubhouse is a well-stocked golf shop as well as the Park Grille & Caf? is open for lunch daily and on Sunday for breakfast and lunch. University Park Country Club can also accommodate weddings, special occasion events, and private parties.
