The DAR Story
The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization with a deeply rich history while also being truly relevant in today’s world. More than 1,000,000 women have joined the organization since it was founded over 125 years ago. They became members to honor their heritage as well as make a difference in their communities across the country and the world. I had a wonderful time visiting the Oregon Daughters for their State Conference. Oregon’s motto is ‘Alis volat propriis, which in English means ‘She flies with her own wings’. The Oregon Daughters certainly know how to fly with their own wings, and march to the beat of their own drum. From the fun lip sync contest that I was able to judge to the service project for the residents at the Oregon Veterans Home, this weekend had a little bit of everything, and truly embodied DAR’s ‘Ties of Service and Friendship’.
