0012: So, safe to say Everton have had the worst transfer deadline day out of every top-flight club, and Tottenham also had a surprisingly disappointing time, despite getting Scott Parker of course. Bolton, Stoke, QPR, Aston Villa and Arsenal, yes, Arsenal have had some of the best. I'll add Fulham to that list after learning about Bryan Ruiz. Liverpool did well to get Craig Bellamy but they will miss Raul Meireles. Chelsea left it very late but emerge with one of the deals of the day there.

No news (yet) on Peter Crouch, but Stoke have confirmed the arrival of one striker. Cameron Jerome has signed a four-year deal after joining from Birmingham for an undisclosed fee. Potters boss Tony Pulis will definitely be hoping Jerome can continue the form he has shown when he has visited the Britannia Stadium with the Blues, because he has netted six times in his four appearances there.

Blackburn snap up highly-rated teenage striker Jordan Slew. The 18-year-old frontman will cost Rovers an initial £1m.

Stoke have announced the capture of midfielder Wilson Palacios from Tottenham, on a four-year deal and for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £6m. Expect Peter Crouch to wrap up his own move from White Hart Lane to the Britannia Stadium in the next few minutes.

2208: Bolton manager Owen Coyle has told BBC Sport's Paul Plunkett he is very happy with how the transfer window has panned out, after signing David Ngog and Gael Kakuta, while managing to keep Gary Cahill despite considerable interest from elsewhere. Not surprised he is happy about that - Cahill looked almost certain to go at one stage.

BBC Sport's Paul Fletcher Brighton will not be signing former Valencia winger Vicente before the transfer window closes. But I understand that talks will continue on Thursday and with the 30-year-old being a free agent, he would still be able to sign for the high-flying Seagulls.

BBC Sport's Saj Chowdhury reports that Newcastle had a £12m bid for the FC Twente striker accepted, but the move broke down over the Costa Rican's personal terms. The Magpies will not be doing any more transfer business in this window... so, over to you Fulham.

2202: So inside one hour left and lots of potential transfers remain up in the air. Mikel Arteta's move from Everton to Arsenal looks set to go down to the wire, while the Gunners are also keen to sign Yossi Benayoun. Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios are at Stoke but they have yet to sign for the Potters, while another two Tottenham players - Jermaine Jenas and Alan Hutton - are waiting to complete their respective moves to Aston Villa. "£4om was apparently offered yesterday," says Redknapp. "It was a big offer turned down for sure. I am delighted the little man is still here." Securing it is a long process and you have to jump through hoops to get a work permit. There is an online form to complete, then you have to apply for a certificate of sponsorship. After that you have to input all the details into Fifa's transfer matching system. The other club also does this and all the details go to the relevant FA's in both countries. He becomes Terry Butcher's second signing of the day after the capture of Wolves midfielder David Davis. And Hamilton Accies have signed 26 year old midfielder Paul Currie from Berwick Rangers, after paying a four figure fee to the Shielfield club, the club's first bid having been rejected yesterday. He's already been linked with Gateshead and Brighton in the last few hours but Sol's agent told me earlier that "nothing is happening" with him today. Sol has picked up an injury while training with Arsenal and is just "concentrating on getting fit".

1659: You might have seen earlier that Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Enda Stevens from Irish side Shamrock Rovers in January 2012. The 21-year-old defender is understandably chuffed. "This is massive for me. It's a dream come true," said Stevens. "I never expected it to come as soon as it has, especially after the last few games in Europe. I grew up following and watching the Premier League and I can dream of playing in it now."

1657: DONE DEAL BBC Radio Manchester report that Scunthorpe have had an undisclosed six-figure bid accepted by Bury for midfielder Damien Mozika, who has handed in a transfer request. He played under Iron boss Alan Knill at Bury last season. The Shakers have already seen prolific scorer Ryan Lowe leave to join Sheffield Wednesday this week.

1655: DONE DEAL Watford have completed the signing of Nottingham Forest forward Joe Garner on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

1653: Still agonisingly short of a done deal but here is some more news on Per Mertesacker's inevitable arrival at Arsenal: The big German defender has announced on his personal website that he has signed a contract lasting until 2015. Roughly translated, he says: "For Per Mertesacker a long-cherished wish has come true. He never made a secret of the fact that most excites him the English league." Good to see him speaking in the third person already...

BBC Sport's Paul Fletcher on Twitter: "Rumours flying around that Brighton are close to signing former Valencia winger Vicente may not be all that wide of the mark. There is a strong possibility the club may have news on the 30-year-old in an hour or so."

1643: More news of Sunderland's (apparently) want-away striker Asamoah Gyan now. BBC Newcastle understands that, contrary to reports, Asamoah Gyan has not handed in a transfer request, and is currently away on international duty with Ghana. So, is Gyan goin' (or stayin')?

1639: DONE DEAL Fulham have completed the signing of 31-year-old Juventus defender Zdenek Grygera on a one-year deal, with the option of a further year. The Czech Republic international joins on a free transfer after his contract with Juventus was terminated by mutual consent on Tuesday.

1639: Into League One now. Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has told BBC Radio Solent that it is now "unlikely" there will be any movement in or out at Dean Court. Millwall had made a bid for Liam Feeney, while the Cherries were hoping to sign a striker but both moves have broken down.

1638: BBC 5 Live's Mike Sewell: In addition to Gilles Sunu joining Lorient on a permanent deal, fellow Arsenal striker Joel Campbell could also be heading to the French club on loan. The Costa Rican joined the Gunners on a permanent deal from Deportivo Saprissa less than two weeks ago.

1633: DONE DEAL West Ham have agreed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury on an initial season-long loan. He will be filling Scott Parker's shoes... happy with that, Hammers fans?

1631: Plenty of rumours surrounding Chelsea winger Florent Malouda today, linking him with Arsenal, amongst others. But the French international has made it clear he has no intention of leaving the London club. "I've still got two years left on my Chelsea contract," he said. "My objective is to extend by one year until the 2014 World Cup." Malouda is currently in Albania on international duty with France.

Goalkeeper Vladimir Gabulov has signed a five-year deal contract after joining from Dynamo Moscow BUT he has been loaned to CSKA Moscow for six months as a replacement for Russia's first-choice goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev, who is sidelined by a cruciate ligament injury he sustained on Sunday.

1622: DONE DEAL Manchester City striker John Guidetti has completed a loan move to Feyenoord for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old Sweden Under-21 international initially looked set to leave City permanently this summer but instead signed a new three-year deal.

1613: Speaking of Lorient, and not Leyton Orient, the French side have signed Arsenal forward Gilles Sunu. The 20-year-old, who joined the Gunners at the age of 15 but never played a Premier League game for the club, had been on loan there last season and has now signed a four-year deal.

1612: Not quite a done deal yet, but almost. Arsenal have confirmed they are to sign Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker "subject to the completion of formal registration processes".

1610: Remember that great transfer deadline day in August 2006, when West Ham stunned us all by swooping for Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano? Yes, me too. Could the Hammers' east London neighbours Leyton Orient be about to emulate them with a swoop for two South Americans superstars in the making, as has been reported this week? Er, no. The O's have denied all knowledge of Linhares' Brazilian teenagers Roger and Mayrinik... And suggest they might have actually signed for French side Lorient instead. An easy mistake to make. The O's ARE in the market for a winger, but are waiting until the loan window opens next week.

QPR boss Neil Warnock has been speaking outside Loftus Road, saying: "The chief executive's done all the dealings, the chairman's in Malaysia so it's been quite difficult but I'm sure we'll get something tied up before deadline. [Shaun Wright-Phillips?] "It's up to Man City now whether he comes." And then asked how many players he'll sign, he replied: "No more than five". Busy.

Word on the Tweet is that Tottenham midfielder David Bentley could be headed to West Ham as an additional sweetener to the Scott Parker to Spurs deal. Just a rumour, that, right now, mind.

1525: DONE DEAL Liverpool midfielder Christian Poulsen has completed his move away from Anfield to French side Evian.

1524: Transfer merry-go-round alert: Hull City are expected to sign Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn on loan until January but only if Jermaine Beckford moves to the Foxes from Everton. If that happens, Hull striker Jay Simpson will go to Championship side Millwall on loan until January.

1520: More on that Scott Parker move to Tottenham from West Ham, by the way - the fee involved in that move was £5m. To my mind... bargain.

1405: Right then, as we wait for things to get moving, here's a bit of background on transfer windows past. The biggest in terms of money spent was 2008 when £675m was spent - the year of Robinho and Dimitar Berbatov to Man City and Man Utd respectively - but this year is running it close. After £225m was spent in January, we have already seen nearly £400m spent this summer, and some big deals could yet go through before the end of play today. Anyone betting against this being the most expensive year in Premier League history?

But the club are likely to reach an agreement today with Shamrock Rovers' Enda Stevens to join in January. The left-back wants to finish the season in Ireland and take part in the Europa League against Spurs.

1357: Suggestions Lille might now be willing to let prized midfielder Eden Hazard leave following Joe Cole's arrival have been rubbished by the French champions. Arsenal have been interested in Belgium international Hazard but BBC Sport's David Ornstein says Lille have not received any bids and insist the 20-year-old is going nowhere.

Well it would appear Arsenal will tie up deals for Per Mertesaker, Andre Santos and Park Chu-young, Tottenham will wrap up their move for Scott Parker (at least), Shaun Wright-Phillips will join QPR, Joe Cole will switch to French side Lille, Aston Villa are in for Spurs full-back Alan Hutton, and arguably the most surprising of summer transfers - Manchester City will sign Owen Hargreaves on a free transfer. And that barely even scratches the surface.
