Hello DC Area Cyclists!

Thanks for stopping by the DC BAC new website. Website, blog, whatever you want to call it. Its our way of keeping in touch with all of you, the cyclists of the District of Columbia.

This site is certainly a work in progress but feel free to look around.  Our goal is to have everything in one place for you.  From the times and locations of our council and committee meetings to current laws affecting cyclists.  We want to keep you informed of new legislation in the works and what Metropolitan Police Department is doing (or not!) to keep cyclists safe.  We even want you to get involved in the moving and shaking at DDOT, Office of Planning, DC Council, National Park Service and more! So, please, feel free to browse a bit, post comments and let us know what you want to see on this site.  The BAC is here for you!

And, please, check back often as this site is about to blow up!

Sincerely,
Meredith Begin
Chair, Ward 1 representative

What is DC BAC?

The District of Columbia Bicycle Advisory Council (BAC) is a body established by law (DC Code sec. 50-1604) to advise the Mayor and District agencies on matters pertaining to bicycling in the District, and to make recommendations to the District’s Bicycle Coordinator on the budget and focus and implementation of the District’s Comprehensive Bicycle Transportation and Safety Program.

The BAC is composed of 18 members. Each member of the thirteen District of Columbia City Councilpersons appoints a citizen of the District to serve on the BAC. An additional five members of the BAC represent city agencies.

The Bicycle Advisory Council meets on the first Wednesday of odd numbered months. Meetings are held on the 11th floor of One Judiciary Square (441 4th Street, NW) from 6 PM to 8 Pm.
