We sent 9 athletes up to Spartan Grapple Challenge 9 at Nailsea on Saturday 2nd February. They came back with 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze medal. This included Gold at absolute and two division finals where our students fought each other.
It was great to see the hours of training pay off, especially for those competing for the first time in a no gi competition.

Just when we thought all the competitions were over for the year, the 10-11th December saw Exeter BJJ students’ successfully competing in interclub competitions hosted by Gracie Barra Cornwall and Gracie Barra Bristol. On Saturday a small group headed down to Newquay’s Koncept Gym where Martin picked up Gold in his division in the gi and Geoff won Bronze no-gi. On Sunday, Genki headed up to Bristol for the submission only competition where he managed to win Gold after an epic 40 minute fight that was one of the longest of the day and Tanya who after clearing out the woman’s division decided to enter the mens and lost after a 60 minute battle.
Also at the weekend, Exeter BJJ’s no-gi coach Chris ‘Cabelo’ Jones was awarded his brown belt by Raphael Dos Santos last weekend. This was a well deserved promotion and caps off a year of competition success for Cabelo.
