Science Article Extra Credit
While we are covering chemistry in Unit 2 and Unit 3 respectively titled, “Introduction to Matter“ and “Interactions of Matter”, students are invited to find and read a science article related to any aspect of these chapters (Ch 5-11). Students can earn Extra Credit (+5) when a one page summary and comment is written and turned in. An Article Summary/Comment may be turned in once a week.

An Article related to Chemistry may be about any aspect of Unit 2 and 3 such as chemistry related technology, hazardous chemicals and related illnesses, the benefits of chemicals in our world, medicines, natural chemicals, properties of matter related to technology, density, magnetism, electrical conductivity, mineral chemistry, volcanic geochemistry, plasma, neon gases, absolute zero, discovery of new elements, dry cleaning and carbon dioxide, chemistry of fireworks, buckyballs, radioactive waste, and radon…… just to name a few.

The Chemistry article summary and comment should include the following:

-Student Writes Down Article Title
-Source of the Article (link if web page or copy of article)
-Student Name
-Date
-Summary paragraph/s should include
1) what the article is about
2) summary of main conclusions or points made about the subject of the article

-Comment paragraph/s should include
1) personal response on the concept, issue, or technology brought up by the article
2) what you think or feel about an article
