Wycombe Choir Hunting for More Men – Reward Offered

Wycombe Philharmonic Choir has posted a reward of a “Tenner for a Tenor” to urgently find new men to swell the ranks of their 70 member mixed choir.

Despite the current popularity of singing, as proved by BBC2’s The Choir and last year’s Last Choir Standing competition, the Phil, as it is fondly known, has hit a dearth of male singers.

To ensure that the choir remains balanced in its tenor and bass line, Wycombe Philharmonic Choir has set up a ‘seek men out’ strategy. Current choir members are trawling pubs, clubs and sports stands to find any man who would like to try singing, but has never had the chance. Any new male recruit will benefit from a reduction in his first term’s membership fees. In other words – a tenner for a tenor and a lowering for the basses, by exactly the same amount. Majestic Scenery and Colonial Charm of Madeira

The Stunning Views from the Levadas in Madeira

The Stunning Views from the Levadas in Madeira

Returning after 17 years, I was pleased to find that Madeira still retains its original colonial charm and the scenic views that have made it a premier short break destination. Especially when staying in the Charming Hotels Madeira group of 4 and 5 star hotels.

The island is an extinct volcano rising out of the Atlantic covered in lush tropical gardens at the lower levels giving way to forests and moorland on the peaks. The white houses with traditional Portuguese red tiled roofs spread up the steep hillsides. Located in the Atlantic 600 km off Casablanca , Morocco it is a popular all year round destination with pleasant average temperatures of 23C in summer and 17C in winter. My Fair Lady – Wycombe Swan Summer Youth Project 2008 August 7-9

This was a marvellous show – just wonderful! I can’t say I’ve ever had a more entertaining time in the theatre. It ticked all the boxes as they say.

The sell-out audiences were all ages from young friends and brothers and sisters of the performers, to their parents and grandparents. Quite a few grandparents went along on their own, humming their way down memory lane to the late 1950s.

The musical, adapted from Shaw¹s Pygmalion (at present on at the National Theatre), was a hit on Broadway in 1956 and set a record for the longest run of any major theatre production in history. Shortly afterwards it was a hit in London.

The cast was over 200 strong, full of vitality and their unselfconscious chorus singing and synchronised movements were the result of a fortnight¹s rigorous rehearsal. The large musical set pieces, with the actors also using the side aisles in the auditorium, were balanced by skilful acting by the principal characters and those with smaller parts.

On the Trail of the Kings of Mallorca – Luxury Resorts with Spas

In these toughening economic times, finding time to relax and rejuvenate the mind and body is becoming more difficult to schedule. Should we waste the precious time and incur the extra fuel surcharges on long haul flights to Asia or the Americas to find a luxury resort?

I recently discovered that Mallorca, barely two hours flying time from London, is well worth considering as a closer to home destination with a wide variety of 4 and 5 star hotels offering wellness spa treatments.

Some of the best examples can be found on the website of the Reis de Mallorca (“Kings of Mallorca”) association of 32 independently owned four and five star hotels, each with a unique character. The members range from small boutique hotels tucked into the narrow streets of Palma’s old quarter, to 13th century converted farm buildings on the fertile central plain, rural manor houses and several seaside spa resorts.

Please refer to the www.mychilterns.co.uk website for the full article and links to all the mentioned hotels.
