There are a couple new galleries up. I haven’t had a chance to write about these trips, so there aren’t any stories or articles linked to these yet. One gallery is of a fire festival I saw back in late August and the other is from a trip to Kyoto I made in September a few weeks ago.

I’ve been in Japan for almost two months now, and you may be wondering why I haven’t posted anything about my actual teaching job yet. Well, I’ve added another page to help fill in the gaps. In addition to this blog, the writing I’m doing about this year is also going to two other spots. I’m sending articles back to my home town of Hampton, NH once or twice a month, and I also have another column about teaching abroad on the Abroad View website. You can get to the column from the links page, and I will republish the newspaper articles in the Article section of this blog. The first article made it into the paper last week, and for those of you not living in Hampton, you can read it here.
The articles and column posts will be more concerned with my experience teaching, and the stories posted on this blog will be about all the other aspects of my life here in Japan.
I hope to get another story up along with some more pictures soon.

New post up! Check out the “Stories” page or go here. This one is about karaoke in Himeji last weekend and my introduction to the school at the start of the week.
In other news, I have found a great hot springs not too far from my apartment. The sauna has stadium seating and a TV that plays Hanshin Tigers’ games. I am very happy.

I’m settling into my new home in Kobe. No internet at my apartment yet, but I’ve got a connection at work and lots of time to write. Expect regular updates from now. The Red Gate is on-line and ready for posting. Updates will appear on this front page with links to new content in other areas of the blog. I leave for Japan on Saturday, August 5th. Updates will be slow at first as I get set up in Kobe, but expect to see new articles on a regular basis once I have a steady internet connection. For now, read the About section to get an idea of the direction for this blog.
