facesGear for Music Reports:

Ronnie Wood is to join forces with Kenny Jones and Ian McLagan to perform as The Faces.

However, lead singer Rod Stewart will not be taking part in next month’s gig at the Royal Albert Hall in London, so guest vocalists will perform in his place.

Bassist Ronnie Lane, who died in 1997, will be replaced by former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman.

Of course, Wyman and Wood have played together before, as the guitarist became a full-time member of the Stones in the mid-1970s.

McLagan later went on to become a session musician, while Jones joined The Who after the death of drummer Keith Moon.

The gig will raise money for PRS for Music Members’ Benevolent Fund, a charity which supports musicians experiencing financial problems.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Wood said: “This will be so special for us, staging a reunion for such a wonderful and prestigious event.”

Rod Stewart Says “N0” To Faces Tour Expectations

•January 26, 2009 • 5 Comments

This week there have been many reports in the press of Rod Stewart stating that there will be no Faces tour at this time

A Rod Stewart’s representative has told  reporters there are currently “no plans” to reunite the Faces for a tour or album in 2009. A story in the Daily Mirror quoted guitarist Ronnie Wood as saying he and Stewart had written a full album’s worth of new Faces material during the holidays, while other reports have suggested that the band has already recorded an album including in this very blog.

But the Stewart camp told Rolling Stone Magazine “Rod did not do any recording” with his former band mate, now a Rolling Stone.

Ronnie Wood has been working on his own solo project, not a Faces album, the spokesperson added.

In an interview with Rolling Stone last month, Ronnie Wood said he’d had a “few fantastic rehearsals” with his old band the Faces, adding, “We just have to sort out when and where and drop all of the management egos and just do what we can. We know we can do it. It’s just a matter of getting everyone’s availability.”

True to the aim of this blog we will stick with the story for as long as news continues, where about a tour on the horizon or such as this, denials of the same.

Can it it be true?

The Mirror reports this week that while Ronnie Wood was glob trotting during the holidays, time was taken to get back into the studio to put the finishing touches on what will be a new album release from the Faces. After a 30 year brake.

It’s been reported that the recordings came together in the end, in just 3 days in studio. I guess we can take that as evidence that the “magic” is still there.

Of course the next question that will naturally follow, is what about a tour? According to The Mirror’s reporting this to has been announced as the plan.

They also went on to report that Ronnie, after joking that his other famed  band (The Rolling Stones) is a collective 258 years old, as well has made plans to take to the road in 2010. Ronnie Wood

Reported in a number of papers and magazines this last week, was some positive feedback from Ronnie Wood about whether or not the Faces are a go once again.

Ronnie has confirmed that he spent some solid time in the studio with his old bad mates (Rod Stewart, Kenney Jones and Ian MCLagan) in the last week of November. They reportably spent the the time playing their old classics to see if the magic was still there.

Even though things are still very hush-hush, right down to the actual location of the rehearsal space, and that no dates for an album or tour have been alluded to, Ronnie Wood has shared his confidence that this will all lead to bigger things.

Ronnie shared with Rolling Stone Magazine “We’re ready to go. It’s like no time has passed by.” Ronnie also shared with the magazine that one of their first concerns is to who will play base. For the moment Rod’s tour basest has joined them in the studio (per rumors). But Ronnie did share one possibility that may be in play “There’s a lot of guest bass players that want to do it, including (Red Hot Chili Peppers star) Flea.”

To the big question of where and when this will get going, so as the fans who have waited 30+ years to see the Faces once again play, Ronnie Wood answered: “We just have to sort out when and where and drop all of the management egos and just do what we can… It’s just a matter of getting everyone’s availability sometime next year.”

Much is still being asked about whether or not Rod Stewart and Ronnie wood along with their old Faces band mates have truly reunited and are ready for the road. But while we continue to guess, their daughters have seemed to beat them to the punch.

On this months cover of the noted society magazine Tatler, Leah Wood (Ronnie Wood’s recently wed and more recently pregnant daughter), Kimberly Stewart (Rod Stewart’s daughter) and Peaches Geldof (Bob Geldof’s daughter) joined together, took off their close and posed for a fantastic cover that is sure to turn heads.

The three it is said jumped at the chance to model for the former rock star now noted photographer from Canada Bryan Adams.

The Tattler noted “Byran had the idea,” “A few eyebrows were raised, but Kimberly and Peaches were in. Leah ran in crying, ‘I’ll do it’.”

Rod Stewart Says The Faces Will Hit The Road This Summer

•November 19, 2008 • 2 Comments

Howie Edelson of KBS reports that rumors are true that the the Faces have rejoined, will go on tour, and have already begun rehearsing.
_____________

Rod Stewart and his fellow faces (surviving), Ronnie Wood, Kenney Jones and Ian MacLagan, Will be going out on tour the summer of ’09 (no dates  as of yet) for the first time since 1975 (before Ronnie Wood went on to join the Rolling Stones). They had their first rehearsal as a band this last Monday (Nov 16th)

It’s rumored that one of Rod Sterart’s touring band mates was on hand for the rehearsal, but no confirmation that hey will join the perspective tour.

Originally an offshoot of the Small Faces, The Faces formed when Steve Marriott left for the band Humble Pie along with Peter Frampton. The remaining member (notably bassist Ronnie Lane brought on at that time Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood, who had played together in The Jeff Beck Group prior to the forming of this new band.

The Faces formed in 1969 when Small Faces frontman Steve Marriott quit the band to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton. The band — which included cofounder and bassist Ronnie Lane — enlisted the help of Stewart and Wood — who, being several inches taller than their diminutive bandmates, forced the group to drop the “Small” from their name.

Last most of us has heard from the Faces was in 2004 when they came out with their box set Five Guys Walk Into A Bar. During that same year Ronnie Wood and Ian MacLagan Joined up with Rod Stewart for a couple songs on the Hollywood Bowl stage, during Rod’s tour.
