A Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, researcher was awarded a special prize for a seal-shaped robot that he invented, which is said to have healed emotional wounds of people affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

Tsukuba Research: Cray CS300 Cluster Supercomputer

Global supercomputer leader Cray announced the Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) at the University of Tsukuba in Japan has put a Cray CS300 cluster supercomputer into production. The new Cray CS300 system has been combined with the University’s current Cray cluster supercomputer, and is providing researchers and scientists with a 1.1 petaflop system for computational science.

Tsukuba Research: A New Way of Making 3D Graphene

Researchers at the National Institute for Materials Science “created a new way of making 3D graphene using bubbles blown in a polymeric glucose solution. The resulting 3D graphene is robust and maintains excellent conductivity.”

Tsukuba Research: New Open Access Journal on Advanced Materials

Japan’s National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) have signed a 5-year collaborative agreement to co-publish the open access journal Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM). Their goal is to make STAM one of the world’s leading publications in materials science.

  • Pay attention to the condition of the roads.
