Welcome to the Alliance for Bhikkhunis! As a lay organization, our mission is to support fully ordained Theravada Buddhist nuns (bhikkunis), who because of the Vinaya (code of monastic disciplinary rules), cannot directly ask lay practitioners to address even their most basic needs. However, lay people are able to invite (Pavarana) their requests and respond as they are able. At this time we are focusing on supporting specific bhikkhuni projects most in need of help. The Alliance for Bhikkhunis is excited to introduce three new additions to our Board of Directors.
Wren Withers and Dennis Crean are both past presidents of Saranaloka Foundation, supporting the Bhikkhuni community of Aloka Vihara in Northern California. Wren has been voted in as the new President of AfB, and Dennis will serve as board member at large.
Wren thanks the entire Board for its ongoing hard work and selfless service over many years, especially Donna McCarthy, the most recent past President.
