Healing & Remembering
In 1937, Columbus Day was made a national holiday. In 2007, Dane County, Wisconsin replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples Day or Native American Day. Nevada City and Berkeley have proclaimed the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day.
Native people have identified atrocities, debunked myths, and expressed their anger over the legacy of Columbus. IPD, or Indigenous Peoples Days, is one effort to heal those historic wounds. Local native and non-native people gather every October to celebrate native history and culture, and honor their healing process.
The Siakumne Tribe and 4 Elements Earth Education together are hosting their 26th Annual Indigenous Peoples Days at Pata Panaka, Nevada City, CA
Siakumne tribal members invite the public to the 26th annual Indigenous Peoples Days Celebration October 11-13. The theme for this year’s free event is “We were here. We are here. We will always be here.” Indigenous Peoples Days is the effort of the local Siakumne tribe and its supporters to encourage education and healing, by replacing Columbus Day with a native based celebration of history and culture. This year we are offering 3 days of Youth Program on October 9-11.
The Siakumne and its supporters invite members of the public to embrace their own respective cultures and the mosaic of cultures represented at IPD.
We are all indigenous from Earth Mother.

This year, offers 3 days of youth programs (Invitation Only), followed by 2 days of Ceremony and Community. The event is set for Wednesday, October 9th through Sunday, October 13th.
This is a free, volunteer driven event open to the public.

Ceremony and Community
Saturday, October 12th, 7am - 10pm : Sunrise and Salmon Ceremony & Potluck Feast, Story Telling, Descendants Circle, Drumming, Music, Bears will come out at night.
Sunday, October 13th, 8am - 6pm: Ricky’s Pancake Breakfast, Music, Community Sharing, Remembrance Potluck Feast
Raffles and Auctions
Fundraising to support this event and future ceremony, youth programs and indigenous elders. Special items are donated!

Indigenous Peoples Days, IPD, is an all volunteer effort.
Zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol.
Donations are appreciated. NO pets allowed on the premises.

Located a few minutes from downtown Nevada City, the Indigenous Peoples Days event takes place at the Pata Panaka Village site at the Burton Educational Preserve.
