Fall is the season where I create my best “runway hippie” outfits with matching shoes. If you’re wondering what on earth that means, allow me to explain. I am as equally drawn to free flowing bohemian apparel as I am to the decadent, high-fashion designs we see on the runway and am thus constantly integrating both styles into my outfits. For example, I am on the hunt for a Penny Lane inspired suede coat with fur trim (mine was stolen about two years ago) and am also coveting everything from the F/W Prada and Stella McCartney runways.

Runway. Hippie. Get it? HAR HAR!

Anyways, as I approach my closet every morning, excited about the fact that I can finally layer my favorite clashing styles, I look to these images for inspiration. Intricate and ornamented Balmain, bohemian Kate Moss, gypsy feathers, armored fingers, oy! I love Fall!

V A R S I T Y

October 5, 2011

I put this look together in a Monday morning hangover slump after trying on dozens of different, more complex outfits that just weren’t looking or feeling right. While my go-tos in such circumstances are usually my black jeans and my favorite broken in t-shirt (see here), those pieces were both in the laundry and I was forced to get creative.

This jacket is perhaps my best minimalist shoe fall purchase so far; I love how it’s kind of like a varsity sports jacket (something I never actually earned seeing as how I was never varsity at anything…or junior varsity for that matter) and at the same time feels like it could have easily come out of Stella McCartney’s f/w collection. It also kind of resembles the Stella McCartney Varsity Sports Jacket which I would kill for…

Stella. McCartney. Perfection.

Anyhoo, you’ll definitely be seeing a lot more of this jacket in the next few months and I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of tempted to sew a big varsity S on it. Who says I’m not varsity now!?

Fall Cleaning

October 4, 2011

{ Robust Red Hues: MAC lipstick in Ruby Woo, Nars lipstick in Gipsy, Revlon lipstick in Sultry Sable }

Last night I started switching out my summer closet with my fall and winter pieces, and that includes make-up. While I’ll still bust out bright orange (see here) and fuschia lipstick (see here) every once in awhile and I’ll always enjoy painting my nails neon pink, my go-tos for the cooler months have always been richer, darker colors like robust red lipstains and murky nail lacquers; what can I say, I love when my nails look like a dirty pond! My perfumes also change - in the summertime I like lighter, crisper scents like Chloé’s Eau de Parfum and in the fall and winter I can’t get enough of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Classique Eau. I’m also eager to try out Tom Ford’s new scent, Violet Blonde.

I like to consider this my “Fall Cleaning”, I throw out stuff that I haven’t worn or used in a coons age and make room for new goodies that I will undoubtedly accumulate. Here are some products I plan to use for the next six months…

{ Faux Tan: Nars bronzer in Laguna, Benefit Glamazon }

{ One of my favorite scents for Fall: Jean Paul Gaultier in Classique Eau }

{ Murky nail lacquers: Essie in Power Clutch, Revlon’s Power Canvas, OPI in Lincoln Park After Dark }

October Bliss

October 3, 2011

It finally feels like fall! Hello brisk winds and yellow leaves! I have missed you!

This past weekend I was able to fully embrace the new season with lots of tights, chunky sweaters and a light jacket at night. I also had to put another blanket on my bed and slept in a sweatshirt; a refreshing change to throwing the covers off of me every night because it was so damn hot.

Even though this dress could technically be worn year round, I really only like to break it out for fall and winter - something about the pleats and thick straps. I actually wore this outfit last fall but I loved it so much that I broke it out again this past weekend while on the hunt for a new apartment.

This week is JAM PACKED with events and shoots every.single.night., but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel because both my Mom and my best friend Claire are coming to visit for my birthday! Suffice it to say, I’m ready for the weekend already.
