Large acreages of planted trees will maintain a park like setting within the community and with each passing year improve the surroundings. The development is midway between the dam and the mouth of the Calamus River feeding the reservoir. The Lake is fed from the spring waters in Rock and Brown counties, traveling 60 miles over sand to the reservoir. The Calamus Lake is over 10 miles long, about 2 miles wide and has over 28 miles of shoreline with a mix of sandy beach and habitat areas.

The multi-use recreation area includes fishing, boating, swimming, camping, hunting, and just plain sight-seeing. A huge fishery at the base of the dam stocks the lake with blue gill, walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass in addition to the channel catfish and northerns already present.

The lake is over 10 miles long and holds 5,127 surface acres at full pool.
