Bangladesh Knitwear sector contributes to the Bangladesh economy in a distinctive manner. The last 20 years witnessed unparalleled growth in this sector, which is also the largest exporting industry in Bangladesh. It has attained top notch stance in terms of foreign exchange earnings, exports, industrialization and contribution to GDP within a short span of time.

“Made in Bangladesh” garments are not only the major imported apparel items by USA, Canada and Europe from Bangladesh, but also these are acting as the “Image Ambassador” of the country and its people. It has helped to create a positive impression of Bangladesh.

In order to safeguard the sector from the wave of global recession, BKMEA’s strategy was to sustain in the main export destinations as well as explore more emerging countries for further sustainable growth rate. Finally at least seven countries had been identified based of economic indicators and named them as JBM-RCKS, which are Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, China, Korea (South) and South Africa.
