Christian Science Church
The Church of Christ, Scientist, was founded in 1879 in Boston, Massachusetts, by Mary Baker Eddy, author of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, and founder of Christian Science.
Mary Baker Eddy
In 1866, Mary Baker Eddy experienced a dramatic recovery from a life-threatening accident after reading one of Jesus’ healings. She yearned to know how and why and searched the Bible for answers. That search led to her discovery of Christian Science.
History of this
Reading Room
The first downtown Jointly Maintained Christian Science Reading Room was established in 1909 near Fulton Street to serve the Financial District. The Reading Room has operated in this area since then at various locations within blocks of John Street.
PRAYER HEALS
The Reading Room contains periodicals from the last 130 years that include tens of thousands of testimonies of healings from people who have applied the teachings of Christian Science to every aspect of their life. These testimonies are contained in the Christian Science Journal, Sentinel and Herald. At the Reading Room you can access this content by topic on-line through JSH-Online or read hard copies from indexed bound volumes. Read how others have been helped and healed by the Word of God, as understood in Christian Science.

The Tri-State Christian Science Reading Room is located at 9 John Street in lower Manhattan next to the Fulton Center near Broadway. The Fulton Center includes a retail complex and transit center that connects the following subway lines: 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, J, Z, and PATH trains from New Jersey.
